1895 AGM - Division 2 Elections
Blackpool
1894-95 Champions of the Lancashire League, Blackpool had big shoes to fill following Liverpool into the Football League. They were unable to match the success of Liverpool, ending up down in 13th place, the final spot to face re-election. They were however only 2 points off Bolton Wanderers and it appears they could still have potential to kick on next season if given the chance.
Burslem Port Vale
The only team to survive re-election last year, it is Déjà vu for BPV as they finish bottom of the league for the third season in a row. Having been struggling for years now it would be weird seeing a season of the Football League without their struggling presence at the bottom of the table but it does beg the question of how long the league electors will put up with their pathetic displays.
Burton Wanderers
Once again trying their luck at getting into the Football League, Burton Wanderers had a successful campaign in the Pub League last season, finishing with just a single loss across the season to Bury. They certainly look like a side that could be competitive, but after last season it seems like Burton is not a priority for the league.
Bury
Hard to deny Bury have one of the strongest cases for joining the Football League, having just won the Pub League with 18 wins and a single loss. Alongside this they also competed in the Lancashire League and managed to finish in 2nd place, losing out on the title by 3 points. After missing out last season though, it is unclear if the league electors have an interest in seeing Bury invited to join Division 2.
Fairfield
Will it be 3 for 3 with teams winning the Lancashire League and being elected up into the Football League? Fairfield certainly hope so as the side look to gain a foothold within their community and stop a recent leak of fans to nearby clubs like Newton Heath and Manchester City.
Leicester Fosse
Third place in the Pub League means Leicester are also permitted the chance to apply to qualify in what is a key year. With the number of spots facing re-election planned to be reduced to just the bottom 3 next season, Leicester will be looking to seal their invitation to the league now. Certainly a side who looks good enough to compete in the league, it really is just a question of if they can pull the votes needed.
Rossendale
The Stags were a surprising additions to the past season of the Football League, managing to pull a perfect voting record to get elected. Despite the skepticism the side were able to compete with some of the other sides in the division and management at the side seem confident in their ability to push forward next season should they be re-elected to Division 2. It is now up to the League Electors to determine whether the Stags will continue.
Stoke
The final team from the Pub League apply for election, Stoke look to replace their local rivals in the Football League. While they are putting in the effort to gain election, results from last season are not as convincing as many other sides applying for election. But as a foundational member of the Football League, the electors may wish to see them return as being out of the league for the last 2 seasons.
