ECW The Doctor Is In 03.08.1996
Philadelphia, PA
ANGLE: Taz and Bill Alfonso get into the ring and Taz laughs, daring Tod Gordon to send out whoever external competitor he has for him this time, he will take care of this idiot within minutes as usual. Gordon says that Taz is really starting to annoy him and become a liability for ECW, so this time he asked Terry Gordy to make a phone call on his behalf, to bring in... Steve Williams!!!
1. Taz (w/ Bill Alfonso) draws Steve Williams by DQ (7 mins)
This is not a dream match, but a good attraction as Taz is being built as the toughest match in ECW and Doc still has an aura as this is pre Vince Russo. Let's be realistic, Doc wouldn't drop the fall in a singles match and I am not jobbing Taz; but this is as a surprise on an already sold out show, so it's a huge brawl that gets thrown out. Fonzie convinces Taz to go away, now aware that ECW is tired of Taz's antics and will find him better opponents, while Williams parades with the crowd and Joey Styles wonders what's next for him in ECW
2. Mikey Whipwreck, Louie Spicolli & Hack Myers def. D-Von Dudley, Bubba Ray Dudley & DW Dudley (w/ Big Dick Dudley) (6 mins)
Mikey leads the team of himself, Myers (feuding with D-Von) and Spicolli, who has been signed after his impressive debut against Taz and is now clearly on the babyface side. D-Von tags again with Bubba and DW, willing to show his family how to handle business, but he's too disruptive. He gets tired and pushes Bubba when Bubba fails to use a chair, DW tries to defend Bubba and D-Von hits DW with the chair, so Mikey finishes him with a franeknmikey
ANGLE: Bubba and D-Von discuss again and for once Bubba seems actually upset about his brother and finally ready to step up to him. But Axl Rotten arrives in the ring to calm them... and hits Bubba! He passes D-Von a chair and they both hit Bubba! Big Dick forces Axl and D-Von to leave, but Joey Styles wonders what the hell are they doing together now
3. ECW World Television Title: Shane Douglas (c) (w/ Francine) def. Chris Jericho (11 mins)
Douglas vs Pitbull #2 will be a long an important feud, so let's milk it, there is no reason to rush their match at this show when the injury for #1 just took place. Jericho gets the title shot and he defeated Douglas in a singles match at Hardcore Heaven after all, so that easily explained why he gets the chance here. The story is that Douglas now has Francine, so he's more focused and dangerous than he was before. Jericho tries his best, but Francine trips him and Douglas hits the belly to belly to retain
ANGLE: The Pitbulls make their way to the ring (their first appearance since Heat Wave), slowly as #1 is wearing a halo, but Douglas leads Francine away while they mock #1. Joey Styles interviews them and #1 confirms that his neck is broken and his career is in jeopardy. #2 is furious, saying that Douglas taking his title and Francine makes him mad, but at least he understands why he would do that; but why would he break #1's neck? There was no reason and Douglas only did it because he's a sick and insecure man. #2 promises #1 that he will vindicate him, he will hurt both Douglas and Francine!
4. ECW World Tag Team Titles Four Way Dance: The Gangstas def. The Eliminators (c), The Samoan Gangsta Party and The Bruise Brothers (12 mins)
So, the match takes place and this is finally where the Gangstas win the belts, starting their debacle, as they were great chasers but underwhelming champions. The other teams are here protect the Eliminators and add smoke and mirror to the division. The twins get eliminated when Saturn pins one of them, then Mustafa pins one of the samoans. At the end, it's an open match. Jack hits Kronus with a chair shot from the top rope and pins him for the title change!
Intermission
5. Too Cold Scorpio def. Johnny Smith (7 mins)
Scorpio has an interesting challenger in Smith, a good and solid worker that makes his ECW Arena debut here. Joey Styles talks about Scorpio's future, saying there are a lot of rumours, but he will personally interview him after the match. They have a quick and hopefully good bout, Smith does well on the mat, but Scorpio wins with the moonsault legdrop in quite quick fashion
ANGLE: Styles interviews Scorpio, who says his future is up in the air, he feels like he's done a lot in ECW, as the 2 time TV champion and the last man to ever beat Taz... but Taz arrives! Fonzie tries to stop him, but Taz still reaches the ring! Taz says that the only reason Scorpio is still alive is because he's one of the 2 wrestlers Fonzie asked him to spare (Fonzie helped Scorpio a lot at first, as a referee), he broke Taz's neck and Taz kind of cherishes that in a weird way, as it's when he understood ECW doesn't give a fu** about him! But Scorpio should NEVER dare to talk about him or he will choke him out! Taz reminds Scorpio about November to Remember 1995, but Scorpio only remembers dropping him on the mat and mocks his savage verses as Tazmaniac! Taz is furious, they go face to face and Taz suplexs Scorpio! Taz hits another suplex, sending Scorpio against the guardrail! Scorpio holds his neck, while Taz finally leaves the scene
6. Brian Lee def. def. Tommy Dreamer (w/ Beulah) (9 mins)
Finally, their first ever singles match and, as their feud is actually already quite tense, this would immediately be a savage one between these two. As Raven reminded, Lee's primary job is to get rid of Dreamer and that is what he tries to do here, despite Dreamer showing all of his worth. However, Raven and his lackeys arrive at the ringside. Beulah jumps on Peaches, mad at what she's doing to Sandman, but Raven (with crutches) pushes her on the floor. Dreamer saves Beulah, but Lee chokeslams him and wins
ANGLE: While Beulah helps Dreamer and they leave, Tod Gordon confronts Raven and says that there is no way he can have his title rematch right now, he's not cleared to wrestle. Raven says he knew it and Lee will wrestle, win the title and give it to him! Gordon says that he might accept that sure... but, as Raven is a sick bastard (he points at Peaches and Tyler), he will enforce the rules and says that Stevie Richards will represent him instead! After all, he's the one that has been saving his ass for the last year! Raven is furious, while Richards is half hopeful and half worried
7. ECW World Heavyweight Title: The Sandman (c) (w/ Missy Hyatt) def. Stevie Richards (sub. for Raven) (w/ Raven, Peaches, Brian Lee, Tyler and Blue Meanie) (8 mins)
Joey Styles says this is the biggest match in Stevie's career, but reminds how many times he actually saved Raven's title, so maybe he has a chance?! Raven sits at ringside with Peaches and Tyler, thus infuriating Sandman, who tries not to look at his son. Once again, Sandman tries to cane Raven and he shields behind Tyler, which leads to a superkick from Stevie for a 2 count. Tommy Dreamer returns at ringside with a chair, hitting Meanie and Lee. The injured Raven leaves with Peaches and Tyler, while Sandman uses his cane on Richards and retains
ANGLE: Sandman thanks Dreamer, but he seems of course still in agony and pain at the sight of his son, dragged away by Raven and Peaches. Missy offers Sandman a beer to do their stick, but Sandman refuses it, indicating it's quite the even if Sandman turns down a beer. Dreamer and Beulah comfort him and look worried, talking to him, while Missy holds the World Title and the beer in disbelief, a step behind them, almost offended that Sandman is not looking at her cleavage, at the beer and at the championship
8. Stretcher Match: Sabu def. Rob Van Dam (15 mins)
Not a super fan of stretcher matches, but it fits the storyline here and it gives both of them new ideas for their bumps, using a new kind of table that never breaks, this was kind of cool. Sabu, of course, wants revenge for what happened when RVD actually hurt his neck so bad that he was forced on a true stretcher. They have their usual match and Van Dam tries a dive on Sabu, but Sabu ducks and RVD crashes into the stretcher, which allows Sabu to push him off the stage and win the match
