Week 4 Hiatus: November 12, 2014
As I was winding down for the night just getting done watching episode 3 still high off of that Mundo vs Chavo match, I got that call that would ruin this day.
"Hey Eddie it's Mark."
"What's up Mark you just caught me right before bed? I said with a curious tone considering it's pretty late and Mark never calls me.
"Yeah I would have called earlier but I just got done dealing with this news myself. I have good and bad news, good for the El Rey network they just closed on a deal for the rights to air two NBC shows, in Spanish dub of course. Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU. This is a trial for the two broadcasters to see if they can develop a partnership for the future." Mark said with a slight hesitation.
"That's great! How can there possibly be any bad news with that? This means more exposure for us and for the very real possibility of NBC execs paying attention to Lucha Underground and bringing us onboard in the future! Which I know is a little premature but..."
Mark interrupts "Let me explain... Yes all of that you said is very exciting but the only issue is they already started promoting a marathon so that viewers can catch up with the show and hopefully tune in to NBC in the springtime for when the new season airs..."
"Ah I see. When do they plan on taking our spot?" I said audibly annoyed.
"Starting next week.."
"That quick! Mark this can ruin us we just finished marketing our first season this is our most crucial time to gain and keep our viewers, this will lose us a huge amount of them! Plus, aren't those shows like 10 seasons long each?? How long is this stupid marathon gonna go for??"
"For about two months." Mark squeaked out.
"This is ridiculous!!" I shouted.
"Eddie I get it I am not happy either but there's nothing I can do I was fighting all day for this I am just exhausted now." Mark said this with an exhale.
"Is there no other time-slot we can fit into?"
"Unfortunately no right now El Rey is thriving with their telenovas being their moneymakers and what draws the fans. We are the newest and cheapest show so we are very expendable. But don't worry with the stuff we have taped especially Retribution for episode 10 the viewers will come back."
"It's Retribucion Mark. I said angrily. Look I am sorry I don't mean to be frustrated with you I know it's not your fault. But I have to go before I say something I regret.
"Okay Eddie have a goodnight, talk to you soon."
"Yeah if you think two months is soon...*click"
OOC: Sorry for the two month hiatus I was very excited to write this diary but got slightly discouraged as I did not get very much feedback on here nor the discord. But I got that motivation again when I saw the email for DOTM was a thing on the site now. I am a very competitive person so you better believe I am gunning for it for the month of August.

Heat Check Hello and welcome everyone to the first episode of "Heat Check"! Once every in-game month I will be breaking down our current storylines and give my take on what I feel about them. While also touching on what is happening in the world of Lucha Underground. This will be separate from the in character updates I will post like the "Week 1 Update." This is for anyone who joins the dynasty late and wants to know what is going on. As far as storylines are concerned, before they fully invest the time to read all of the posts. I also want to use these to ask questions to the community and receive feedback. Think of it as a "Talking Smack" kind of a post. This will hopefully be easier to digest than a normal written up show as well as get you to care more for the characters I am fleshing out for this series. First up.
Carlito Colon vs Mil Muertes
When making the decision to start the LU series I first watched several seasons of the show to understand the product. One thing I felt was lacking, a character who was laid back and able to walk around the temple poking fun at some of the ridiculousness around him. So I thought to myself who can play that role for me? Instantly thought back to Carlito and how I enjoyed his character work in WWE. Admittedly I was not one to watch independent wrestling or know anyone outside of WWE until I started playing TEW 2016. I found out Carlito was still working for his father's promotion in Puerto Rico and told myself he's coming to the temple. I decided to start him off facing one of the most serious acts in the company Mil Muertes. Not for Carlito's sake if I am honest but to show the force that is Mil Muertes by taking on a top U.S. star like Carlito. But an accidental positive that came out of this which I adjusted to was the ability to show Carlito's range because if your first time seeing him off of WWE is LU you only remembered the "cool" guy. When we first met him he was caught staring at Catrina playing on his old behavior as the comedy guy but after his first match with Mil Muertes and the physical toll that was put on his body. I think Carlito realized this was no longer a joke. Which he doubled down on being a serious contender by charging the ring last week and saving Ivelisse from more harm coming to her by the hands of Mil Muertes. Unfortunately that did not last long as both Carlito and Ivelisse were eviscerated by Mil Muertes. With Ivelisse catching most of the destruction being slammed through the floor while on a stretcher from atop the temple which will surely put her out for months. I'm sure, next time we see Carlito he's not going to be in a joking mood after that. Johnny Mundo & Chavo GuerreroTwo ex WWE guys who came to Lucha Underground in pursuit of opportunity. Opportunity to show the world that they are some of the best in the ever to do it. Even without the backing of WWE. They can also prove that they can carry a company and deserve to have the trust of the company to be top guys. This is tested on night one of LU as both Mundo and Chavo lost their first match to their respective opponents Ultimo Dragon and Prince Puma. Although heartbroken from his loss Johnny Mundo decides to keep it moving and become better. Chavo on the other hand was seen holding an old photograph of his family and shaking his head. Perhaps conveying that he feels a loss dishonors the Guerrero name? The following week when approached by Mundo as they were not able to talk on night one he attempts to greet Chavo but is shot down. This naturally infuriated Mundo which escalated into a one on one match between Johnny and Chavo. Chavo once again lost and although it seemed like he hesitated he once again raised the arm of the man who pinned him. We have not seen either man since the match on Episode 3 but Johnny Mundo was advertised for Episode 6. We are eagerly anticipating both men's return but also to see the mind-state of one Chavo Guerrero. King Cuerno vs DragoFrom the moment LU aired Drago and his unique look was a huge part of the marketing campaign. It was great for business that he won the fatal 4 way between some of our core LU roster members Pentagon Jr., Rey Fenix, and Son of Havoc. In a moment of celebration some viewers were filled with an increasing uneasiness as King Cuerno could be seen stalking Drago. This was only escalated when after a match that the winner would lay claim to $100,000 between Drago and Prince Puma, after the victory by Puma and a great show of sportsmanship from the two by shaking hands Drago was brutally assaulted by King Cuerno who picked his spot and began the hunt. Although Prince Puma wanted to help he was pulled away by his manager Konnan. Leaving Drago to take a beating he has yet to recover from. King Cuerno has stated he is looking to start a new hunt one more challenging than Drago will he find one and will we ever see Drago again? Pentagon Jr. vs Rey FenixIn Mexico, Pentagon Jr. is the Yang to Octagon's Ying. And in Lucha Underground the same can be said for Pentagon and Rey Fenix's relationship. It started when Pentagon was embarrassed in his first match in LU which was a fatal 4 way in Pentagon's mind he had the match won before the distraction caused by Rey Fenix left him to be the one who was pinned. Since that 1st episode Pentagon has been looking to get revenge no matter the cost. Going as far as attacking Fenix during his match with King Cuerno and delivering a ruthless package pile-driver in order to get Fenix to accept the match. However, Rey Fenix considers himself to be the brightest young star on the roster and isn't looking to beat by anyone anytime soon. For us this rivalry seems more personal than just someone costing another luchador a match. With the announcement of Dario Cueto starting the first ever tournament for the tag team championships "The Dario Cueto Tag Team Invitational" is the perfect time for us to shine a spotlight on our tag team division. Which we wanted to establish since the inception of Lucha Underground. We want it to be cool to be a tag team wrestler again. With only 5 episodes under our belt we have not introduced or established all of our teams. But one of our focal point teams has to be Hombres del Sol Naciento (El Hijo de Ninja & Ultimo Ninja) real life cousins who have brought their talents to the temple. But they have also brought their past as their bitter rivalry with El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. and his family continues in Lucha Underground as Legado de Lucha (El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. & El Hijo de Rey Misterio) all of these men have a bone to pick with one another. We cannot forget real life brothers Los Magnificos (Magnifico 1 & Magnifico 2) who are young but their agility and athletic ability seem unmatched in a company full of aerial assassins. A newly debuted team is Da Hit Squad two behemoths who look to shake up the division and what it takes to be a successful one in LU. With all these factors plus more to come this tournament looks to be shaping up to be one for the ages. Prince Puma vs Scorpio HollowayOur newest rivalry seems to be one between one of the faces of Lucha Underground in Prince Puma and the King of SoCal Scorpio Holloway. This was started after a match in which Holloway was flown in via private helicopter and was upset by Prince Puma who has been on a roll here in the first month of LU. He is one of two luchadors who is still undefeated after competing in more than one match the other being Mil Muertes and when you are included in a list with that force of nature you are doing something right. Prince Puma not one for talking or showboating was on the way out of the temple after his victory when he was blindsided by Da Hit Squad who turned out to be hired by Scorpio Holloway who lives his life in lavishing style and isn't afraid to tell the world about it. He did not appreciate being embarrassed by Puma and I don't think these two are ready to bury the hatchet. Dario Cueto vs ??? Dario Cueto has not presented himself as being a "nice" man but he does seem to know how to run a successful business. But one could even feel sympathy for a man who seems to be the victim of stalking. After receiving a call from an unknown person and being told "see you soon" Dario has done nothing but protect himself he beefed up his personal security by hiring The Crew. Killer Cortez Castro, Bonafide Ricky Paco and Tigre Danny Castillo. We have seen him order these three men to stick with 24/7 with the amount of money it must cost for this protection Dario must be in the cross-hairs of someone dangerous. One thing still left unanswered what was in that abandoned building Dario was seen leaving, with the breathing equivalent to a bear.
Questions for the Believers Now we have questions for you guys the believers out there and would appreciate all the feedback we can get.
1. I want to try out a new style of presenting the diary that will streamline the process essentially four episodes per write up. Would you enjoy that style more or should I continue this more detailed style and continue to improve upon on it even though it's one episode covered in the post?
2. Do you like the idea of Heat Check as a show and as potentially a story telling tool for the future?
3. What do you feel I can do to enhance your experience on reading and commenting on this post?
4. Would you be interested in polls to decide outcomes on certain matches or stipulations at "Special Presentations" potentially changing the story and having me roll with that decision?
5. I love the idea of writing Lucha Underground but notice companies like WWE or WCW seem to be more popular. Would anyone be interested in me starting a diary that will run simultaneous to this one of perhaps current day WWE?
I appreciate any feedback provided and sincerely hope you enjoyed the first episode of Heat Check.

I haven't kept up with this the greatest and haven't posted before now, but I have really enjoyed it. It does feel a little odd with the starting being Eddie is alive, because I feel like that would have changed a lot of things in wrestling between 2005 and now. And, this is not a criticism, but I haven't seen much that has really changed in LU due to that change in history either. But I will take that as feeling you have something planned for the future. But even if you don't, the rest of this is refreshing as there are a lot of WWF/E or WCW diaries, and reading through this is a good change of pace because of the unique presentation you can use for it.
"The Heat Check" is nice, but IMO I wouldn't want to see it more than perhaps once an in-game month or perhaps on the way to or after each event, or else you could end up just repeating yourself on it. As for changing how this is being presented, I always say that is up to the writer; if you don't feel like this style is working for you, keep changing and evolving and squeezing it until you are happy with it.
I watched a lot of Lucha Underground when it was on, but that's the last "modern" wrestling I watched. So there are some guys who I don't know who are coming in (like Excalibur on commentary; I know he was working it in AEW, but I haven't watched any of it) but I feel possibly the best part of LU is that you can give anyone whatever characteristics you would like and run with it. The best description I ever heard given to LU was "a live action comic book," so I look forward to seeing what you do in the future pages of your comic!

The best description I ever heard given to LU was "a live action comic book," so I look forward to seeing what you do in the future pages of your comic! First and foremost thanks for the response! I went with the idea for Eddie just for the fact he is one of my favorite wrestlers and it deeply saddened me when he passed. So it was nice to change something up to make this diary unique. I definitely have big plans for him as a character in this series but as of right now he is just a backstage producer to the show. In charge of scouting talent and overall managing the roster and help layout the matches and angles. In order to not explain everything that happened in 2005 till now I just went with the idea that he did have his drug addiction but it was caught in time. He went to rehab and never came back to the wrestling business until he was approached with this idea for LU and he only gave it thought because it would push forward not only lucha but Hispanic culture in general to a mainstream audience when there isn't a lot of representation of them in media. Yeah I have a long term plans for sure this is going to be a slow burn type of series and I am hoping to keep it going for years to come in-game and out. The issue I had initially was I felt I was taking too much inspiration from TFC so i tried to develop and upgrade my own presentation each passing week which put a lot of pressure on me since I'm not that good of a writer I mostly like telling my stories verbally. I could overcome a little anxiety until I noticed I wasn't getting any participation from the community so I just assumed no one wanted to read it hence the hiatus in the middle of the series. Yeah big thing for me was no WWE or WCW as that is the majority of what I saw on greydog and on here which is nothing wrong with it of course but I felt I would be lost in the shuffle. The Heat Check will happen maybe monthly or bi-monthly it was just my idea to explain the storylines to someone who was previously reading and forgot everything since the hiatus. I watched the first two seasons of LU and started writing the series I noticed I loved some of their storylines so much I was accidentally writing them in-game so I stopped and will resume once I get completely away from any of their storylines. Last thing about my presentation it takes me a while to write it all up and format it how I do it which kind of discourages me from doing it plus it might be discouraging readers due to the length at least that was my thought process so might try something new or if not keep this format until Season 2. Season 1 will be 20 episodes long.

I just wanted to post a message from someone who has been struggling to live up to the legacy of some of my favourite Dynasty writers, take heart. First off, compared to some other boards there does not seem to be quite the same level of overall activity here, but those who do write here are some very good writers, yourself included! Second, and the best piece of advice, write what you love. If this Dynasty is a story that is close to your heart, then just stick with it, and that will come through. I can't speak for others, but I spend hours each day obsessing over storylines in my head, thinking years into the future. And then its the work of getting that passion across, and things may not always translate the way we want them to (after all, who can be in our head) but if you are loving it, let it continue to fuel your writing!

Thank you for the message and compliment really does mean a lot! I am one of those lazy perfectionist so trying to live up to those dynasty writers makes me think I have to write perfectly and I get discouraged so I just don't do it. Honestly I love this story and what I have planned especially for my Dario storyline. In wrestling I am the guy who loves when there is a main storyline and the wrestlers have their normal feuds for titles but still be effected by the main storyline. I agree I also obsess and think about storylines all day I am in a couple of facebook groups and it's fun to give others ideas. I love this project so much that I don't want to write one over there even if it will be quicker for fear of taking away from this one. That's it right there is getting the story across properly which is why I am taking my time with this episode 6. I was going to switch this format but I don't think I will anymore instead make it more concise and easier to follow. Probably save some of the big write ups for the PPVs
