Currently away from my normal computer. My plan is normally after each PPV to release a report. Covering notable news from the company. Releases. Signings. Some kayfabe stuff. Seeing as right now I can't write the go home Raw. Here's a report to help hype up the rumble and do what I was going to do after the Rumble anyways instead. ROYAL RUMBLE REPORT
Ric Flair Re-Signs With WWF The status of Ric Flair in WWF was tenuous at best at the beginning of January and there were many rumours the company had signed off any hopes of keeping hold of the nature boy. However multiple meetings are reported to have happened with Flair and WWF management. Firstly to help ease any tensions and secondly to actually get negotiations started. Whilst no exact figures have been confirmed. It is safe to say that WWF paid a decent chunk of money just to bring Ric to the table before presenting him a contract. If it were any other wrestler. One wonders if the company would have gone to these lengths. This was not any other wrestler however and with the company needing big names right now. It's hard to argue against keeping Ric Flair.
Addition To The Commentary Changes to the commentary team have been confirmed but not until Wrestlemania at the least. One of WWF's latest non wrestling acquisitions is play by play man, Jim Ross. Ross is an experienced announcer with time in Mid South and WCW under his belt. It has been confirmed by the company that the plan right now will be to add Jim Ross to the commentary team for WWF Events. Joining Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan. The change will not happen officially however for "story purposes" until Wrestlemania IX. As Randy Savage has already been slated to join Monsoon and Heenan to commentate the Royal Rumble.
Women In The Dark Amongst the signings the WWF has made, a few women have been brought in with the hopes to start building a division. Women's wrestling has not really been featured in the company since the eighties and the fans are now used to women as valets and managers rather than in ring talent. For now the company will be testing their female talent in dark matches, to measure fan reactions and establish where to position female matches on the card in the future when a woman's division can be properly featured on television.
Confirmed for the Royal Rumble Whilst some spots in the Royal Rumble help give some on the roster a chance to appear on a big show. This year's Royal Rumble is a first for WWF. The winner of this year's rumble will go on to face the WWF Champion at Wrestlemania. So while some spots that have been filled in the Rumble are honestly, just to fill a spot. Big names such as The Undertaker, Yokozuna, Razor Ramon have been confirmed and to an extent Rick Martel who, while we can say with some confidence Martel probably won't be winning. It seems the company wants to try and give Martel a new push and a good showing in the Rumble is a good way to do it. There is also the fact to mention that the company is teasing a "Big return" for a former face from the company. Some have speculated this to be Hulk Hogan. However the company denies the Hulkster will return at the Rumble. Stating that the star is still on hiatus, what they do confirm is that it is someone from that era. Someone who we imagine could be used to help fuel the youth movement currently in place.
