NEW JAPAN PRO WRESTLING PURCHASED BY KAZUYA NOMURAAhead of their January 4th Tokyo Dome show, New Japan Pro Wrestling has made the shocking announcement on New Year's Day that 21 year old millionaire, Kazuya Nomura has purchased New Japan Pro Wrestling and Antonio Inoki will no longer be making decisions for the company. New Japan has made it clear however that Inoki will remain with the company but it is unclear what capacity that will be in currently, Riki Choshu will be continuing his role as booker of the heavyweight division and Jushin Liger will also remain booker of the junior heavyweight division. Kazuya Nomura is a tech genius that has made millions off of his ideas and when asked why he suddenly made the decision to get into the wrestling business he said, "I was a very big fan of wrestling growing up, New Japan Pro Wrestling in particular and it is my dream to make sure what I love continues to thrive forever." Nomura is a very charismatic figure who is popular with the youth in Japan and is an inspiration to many young kids growing up right now in Japan, he may be capable of helping grow the audience of New Japan for years to come but for now we will have to wait and see what lies ahead with Wrestling World coming on January 4th.

Translated to English by Jack Arnold of Purogress.com NJPW WRESTLING WORLD 2001 PRESS CONFERENCEThe press conference begins with Kazuya Nomura standing in front of the press conference table with the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team championship titles sitting on the table behind him, the sound of reporters cameras clicking can be heard from behind the camera. He says, "Unfortunately, I must announce that Minoru Tanaka & Koji Kanemoto are going to have to vacate their IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team championship titles due to the fact that Koji Kanemoto has injured his shoulder and has not been cleared to compete, this injury will keep Kanemoto out for longer than the IWGP championship defense clause would allow, this clause states that if a title is unable to be defended for six months the champion must be stripped of their title, because of this the scheduled non-title special tag match will be replaced with the Special Singles Match of Minoru Tanaka vs Kazunari Murakami. Due to this, new champions will be crowned in an 8 team tournament with the champions being determined at a later event following Wrestling World."
Speaking of tournaments, Nomura would then go on to reveal the bracket for the single night tournament to crown the new IWGP Heavyweight Champion as it was vacated in October of last year at NJPW Do Judge!! after Kensuke Sasaki felt great shame losing to an outsider in Toshiaki Kawada (AJPW) in a non-title match. After this was revealed all the tournament participants came out to answer reporter questions. Sasaki was asked how he felt about the tribulations he would have to face if he were to advance out of the first round in going up against the man that beat him especially after gaining fatigue in a match prior to it, while Kawada will be fresh for their clash. Sasaki simply stated that this was the price he would have to pay for redemption and he is willing to pay that price, however he says he can't think about Kawada as he has a challenger that he considers to be equally as tough in one half of the IWGP Tag Team Champions, Satoshi Kojima. Kawada was asked how he felt about the possibility of becoming the third person ever alongside Vader and current AJPW Triple Crown champion Genichiro Tenryu, to have a reign with the AJPW Triple Crown championship and the IWGP Heavyweight championship. He said that he would be honored to have the chance to join such an exclusive list of legendary wrestlers but he won't let the chance at such an accolade cloud his judgement and he is fully focused on what lies ahead. Both Kojima & Tenzan were asked how they would feel if they both managed to make it to the finals against each other after being a team for so long, they both said it's a dream of theirs to main event a Tokyo Dome show and against each other it would be even better, Tenzan says he is confident he would best Kojima because up to now he has had his number in the previous seven matches coming away with 5 victories against him out of the seven. Kojima told him not to be so cocky as the last time they faced each other was back in 1998 and he is much better now than he was then and he would definitely beat Tenzan if they faced off in the finals. Chono was asked what the opportunity to win the IWGP Heavyweight championship meant to him considering that he has held the belt once and only for 44 days due to injury, Chono took offense to the question as he sneered at the reporter who asked the question, got up from his seat and grabbed him by his shirt collar lifting him into the air and threatened to beat him up then and there, the reporter pissed his pants and that made Chono laugh so he spared the young man and sat him back in his seat. When he sat back down he said that New Japan and all the wrestler's in it should consider themselves lucky that he hasn't gotten ahold of the most prestigious prize in professional wrestling up to this point, because once he gets ahold of it he is never going to lose it no matter what, Chono then stormed off refusing to answer anymore questions but not before scaring the reporter one more time and laughing on his way out. Nagata answered a question pertaining to how he confident he felt that he could win the tournament after seeing the participants and the bracket, Nagata stated that he noted that three of the challengers are all up and coming stars in the New Japan landscape that have yet to win any singles titles in New Japan and the other three are veterans that have already cemented their place in history, Nagata says that a win from any one of the up and comers would set the tone for the future and that if one of them wins they will be tasked with leading the next generation of stars into New Japan's very bright future. Nagata takes this very seriously and wants to be the one to bear that responsibility and lead the way for the next generation. No one had anymore questions so everyone at the press conference table got up and took a few more photos for the reporters before walking off and the press conference is concluded.

Alright so I've finally set the stage, if anyone wants to do predictions I've got the card below. To me January 2001 is the perfect place to pick up in New Japan, the Heavyweight title is vacant so you can go any direction you want from there and it's right before the Dark Ages of New Japan truly set in proper. The show is already booked and has happened, the results will be posted on Sunday.
