July 5th - July 14th 1983
- This has been a really quite week and nothing happened for a change!
- Oh, except for the fact I have signed Dick Murdoch to a contract. I am really positive about this, Murdoch did great in the two matches he worked for me and everyone seems to like him. Apart from Terry, Dory and a lot of other big stars, he doesn't have any Japan commitment at the moment and so he was happy to sign
- Gene Kiniski has changed CState's wrestling style to a traditional one, more focused on the "golden age". I am in favour of that
- Speaking of CState, Gran Markus has improved his physique since being there
- News from the wrestling world: WWF booker George Scott had a fallout with Rocky Johnson; ICW lost their TV deal; EMLL fired a few wrestlers to save some money; Dusty Rhodes defeated Mike Graham in a great match for CWF (89 rating)
World Class Championship Wrestlong 14.07.1983 Dallas, TX Attendance: 9441 TV rating: 0.49 Show rating: 76
Dennis Condrey (w/ Bobby Eaton) def. Brian Adias (w/ Ricky Morton) in 7:47 (65)
Taped Dick Murdoch interview, as Marc Lowrance approached him in the locker room after next week's show. Murdoch says that WCCW is throwing money at him and he wants to come back as he's the baddest man around! Murdoch will be a Star Wars and, as he's an international star, launches an open challenge to anyone in the world (70)
The Fantastics & Bill Irwin def. Chris Adams, Tommy Rich & Al Madril in 7:16 when Futlon pins Madril. During the match, Gary Hart signs Rich/Adams vs. Fantastics for Star Wars, with the Tag Titles on the line (59)
On stage Marc Lowrance interviews Mr. X and José Lothario. X says he finally will admit what José wants to ask him about... they are in Star Wars' battle royal! José seems annoyed, but they get interrupted by Armand Hussein, who announces the presence of Great Kabuki and Magic Dragon at the battle royal too (62)
WCCW Texas Heavyweight Title: King Kong Bundy (c) (w/ Skandor Akbar) def. Killer Tim Brooks in 5:01 (60)
On stage Gary Hart also announces Iceman Parsons and Dory Funk Jr. for the battle royal! Jimmy Garvin interrupts Hart and says the next entry is Terry Taylor, then remembers sarcastically that Taylor is injured and out of action! (68)
Terry Funk & Kevin von Erich def. Buddy Roberts & Terry Gordy by DQ in 12:18 (76)
Postmatch Michael Hayes attacks Kevin again with the confederate flag and the Birds keep beating on Kevin until David and Kerry arrive and their rivals decide to leave! (89)
Show notes
- This week's show broke another 2 records! Best TV rating and best attendance for a TV show!
- The matches between Birds and von Erichs are set in stone now for a bit, so I spent most of the show building other angles and giving space to more storylines. The momentum is really good and so the crowd didn't mind at all... au contraire, they exploded once they finally saw David and Kerry for a great 89 rating. Sometimes less is more!
- Little did I know, Dick Murdoch is related to my ex-employee Tim Brooks and I brought him in for a squash match. Bundy looked really well here
- I have a couple of surprises for Star Wars! One for the battle royal and then Murdoch's opponent. Unsure if both will be high profile though
- Jim Ross and Gary Hart are working really good together at commentary and today they showed great chemistry. Bill Mercer now comments a segment of two at best
- Al Madril underdelivered during his match
WCCW Independence Day Star Wars 26.07.1983 - WCCW American Heavyweight Title: Kevin von Erich (c) vs. Michael Hayes - No Disqualification Match: Kevin von Erich & David von Erich vs. Terry Gordy & Buddy Roberts - Ted DiBiase vs. Terry Funk - #1 Contender Battle Royal: Jimmy Garvin vs. King Kong Bundy vs. Mr. X vs. José Lothario vs. The Great Kabuki vs. Magic Dragon vs. Iceman Parsons vs. Dory Funk Jr. vs. ? vs. ? - Open Challenge: Dick Murdoch vs. ??? - WCCW American Tag Titles: Chris Adams & Tommy Rich vs. The Fantastics

I like to think that little frowny and confused emote face I see, (instead of multiple question marks) for Murdoch's opponent, was an intentional move and that the mystery wrestler is questioning their life choice for agreeing to take on Captain Redneck Dick Murdoch.

July 15th - July 21st
- The big story of the (otherwise quiet) week is that Terry Funk will miss the next TV show, as he's working on a CWA house show. This really annoys me as my TV shows are drawing 9000+ fans, while a CWA house show averagely has 1000 people in attendance. I am also paying him more than CWA does per show, but I won't do much about it as Funk is with me only until the end of 1983 (this is a bug in the game, as Funk will only sign with me for 9 months as he's a freelancer, but then his existing CWA deals is outgoing and can last for years?!)
- Due to this, I am now always double-checking wrestlers' availability even more than before. The following athletes will always work another company's date instead of World Class: Terry Funk (AJPW and CWA), Great Kabuki (AJPW) and Tommy Rich (GCW). Other wrestlers are either signed to an exclusive contract or working for me when I clash with other companies
- Speaking of contracts, I am about to sign another 3 wrestlers very soon and I will bring them in gradually as I have already an idea for all 3 of them
- Jimmy Garvin has been praised for his good mood and attitude backstage, which is good to see as he's probably frustrated due to all the incidents that are delaying his blowoff against Terry Taylor
- News from the rest of the world: Prof. Tanaka is taking a year off wrestling to film a movie; SWCW has been given another warning due to their debts
World Class Championship Wrestling 18.07.1983 Dallas, TX Attendance: 9613 TV rating: 0.47 Show rating: 74
Non Title Match: Tommy Rich & Chris Adams def. The Midnight Express by DQ in 9:46 when The Fantastics attack Adams (66)
Postmatch Ricky Morton and Brian Adias arrive to help the champions and so the heels back off. Gary Hart, on commentary, announces that he just signed Adias & Morton vs. MNX for Star Wars! (45)
Dick Murdoch def. Bugsy McGraw in 5:12 in a total squash. Hart hypes the open challenge at Star Wars (60)
At ringside Marc Lawrance interviews Ted DiBiase. DiBiase likes that Funk is digging and starting to be more violent with him, because he has undermined him so far and this is an insult as DiBiase wants respect. Ric Flair will soon get the NWA World Title back and, says DiBiase, he will happily come back to Texas to humiliate Funk again (85)
Great Kabuki, Checkmate & Magic Dragon (w/ Armand Hussein) def. Mr. X, José Lothario & Iceman Parsons in 7:19 when Dragon pins Parsons. X and José have another argument during the match and X undermines it. Bill Irwin watches from ringside and Hart says that he will join all the others in the Battle Royal (38)
King Kong Bundy and Skandor Akbar stop Gary Hart on commentary and Bundy insults all the Battle Royal participants, saying that he will beat all of them, including Dory Funk Jr. Hart then takes the time to announce the 10th and final participant: Stan Hansen! Bundy is furious and Akbar tries to calm him down (70)
Non Title Match: Kevin von Erich def. Buddy Roberts in 13:26 (76)
Postmatch The Freebirds arrive to take Roberts away, while Kerry and David celebrate with their brother. David grabs the microphone and promises that Star Wars won't be good for the Birds, they want revenge and will get it by any means necessary! The Birds seem worries by their opponents' determination (77)
Show notes
- 9613 is another attendance record for a TV show! I hope we can get to 10000 soon and so I will get more seats!
- The crowd was still hot for the final part of the show and enjoyed the main event's clean finish, but I noticed that a promo didn't get the reaction that the show ending brawl gets. Which is fine, but I can't really close the show every week with a physical attack... it's a long long feud
- DiBiase killed it with a great interview, not only his work was top notch but his crowd interaction was perfect
- The six men was ruined by Kabuki's injury, Parsons cracked his tail bone and so the match didn't deliver. Kabuki won't miss any dates, but I am a bit annoyed as it's not the first time Parsons is a bit sloppy in the ring, I used to be really high on him but he's not doing enough
- McGraw did a really good job for Murdoch, selling really well the moves and letting his opponent look like a million bucks. I will bring him back for more enhancement work soon
- I am a bit worried about the low interest around Morton and Adias helping Rich and Adams against MNX and Fantastics. The feud are going okay, the crowd likes the matches but they are not thrilled by the angles between them. It can be a problem, as it took me a bit to get the Tag Titles back to the midcard (where they belong, at least in the long run) and these 4 will be an instrumental part of the division. Let's see how it goes, I might use managers to improve things maybe?
WCCW Independence Day Star Wars 26.07.1983 - WCCW American Heavyweight Title: Kevin von Erich (c) vs. Michael Hayes - No Disqualification Match: Kevin von Erich & David von Erich vs. Terry Gordy & Buddy Roberts - Ted DiBiase vs. Terry Funk - #1 Contender Battle Royal: Jimmy Garvin vs. King Kong Bundy vs. Mr. X vs. José Lothario vs. The Great Kabuki vs. Magic Dragon vs. Iceman Parsons vs. Dory Funk Jr. vs. Bill Irwin vs. Stan Hansen - Open Challenge: Dick Murdoch vs. ? - WCCW American Tag Titles: Chris Adams & Tommy Rich vs. The Fantastics - The Midnight Express vs. Brian Adias & Ricky Morton

July 19th - July 25th 1983
- I have hired 2 of the 3 wrestlers I was negotiating with. The third one is not signed yet, as my offer created a bit of a bidding war, which I should win anyway. The other 2 should debut soon, but I am not going to give any spoilers!
- Speaking of hirings, I have also signed Bobby Heenan! Heenan will debut at the next show and manage somebody (obviously a heel). Heenan might end up at the announcers table sometime in the future
- Speaking of announcers, with Jim Ross and Gary Hart calling the show, Bill Mercer will now be the ring announcer and interviewer. Marc Lowrance has been sent to CState to be their voice
- I have also hired El Hijo del Santo, but not to use him. I have immediately sent him to EMLL for a year's excursion and will have a look at him in 1984. He has great talent and was still a free agent, I am really interested in getting over some Mexican stars due to the Texan connection
- My merchandise department has been upgraded, I will review the figures in a couple of months to see if I am benefitting from this
- News from the wrestling world: JPW in the UK have lost their TV deal; Blue Panther has left UWA as he was unhappy with his booking; CWA fans were shocked when their hero Jerry Lawler turned heel on Terry Funk
World Class Championship Wrestling 25.07.1983 Dallas, TX Attendance: 9722 TV rating: 0.51 Show rating: 75
Chris Adams (w/ Tommy Rich, Brian Adias and Ricky Morton) def. Bobby Eaton (w/ Dennis Condrey, Tommy Rogers and Bobby Fulton) in 7:36 (65)
On stage Bill Mercer interviews Dick Murdoch, who doesn't really care about who will answer his open challenge at Star Wars, as he will prove to be the most dominant force in WCCW (70)
Mr. X (w/ José Lothario) def. Jimmy Garvin (w/ Sunshine) in 9:53. During the match, Kabuki, Checkmate, Magic Dragon and Bill Irwin want to attack X, but José and Iceman Parsons stop them (62)
Postmatch King Kong Bundy rushes at ringside and attacks Parsons just to send a message to the other battle royal participants. Bundy yells at Dory Funk Jr. and Stan Hansen that he will knock them out too (68)
David von Erich (w/ von Erichs) def. Checkmate (w/ Armand Hussein) in 7:02 (70)
Postmatch von Erichs are leaving the ring, while The Freebirds are arriving for the main event. Gary Hart gets involved and orders the brothers to go away without any physicality, while The Birds mock the von Erichs! (75)
Terry Funk def. Michael Hayes (w/ Freebirds) by DQ in 13:05 when Ted DiBiase, now accompanied by his manager Bobby Heenan, attacks Funk at ringside (76)
Postmatch DiBiase leaves and Funk is at the Freebirds mercy, but the von Erichs come back for the save! The Birds quickly leave the ring and back off. Hayes grabs a microphone and says that at Star Wars the von Erich family will be defeated once and for all! (82)
Show notes
- Successful go home show, as we got both an attendance and a TV rating record this week!
- I feel like the competitive matches surely helped this episode, especially the main event and the postmatch too. I feel like VE vs. Birds is still interesting and fresh, as we're finally going to see the first big show singles matches between them and we got a lot of pairings still not explored
- I am really thrilled to see what DiBiase will do with Heenan, not that he needs a mouthpiece but I can see this pairing working really really well. DiBiase has quickly become one of the hottest members of my roster
- Bill Mercer is doing great as an interviewer so far and he helped Murdoch big time with his promo
- Crowd has been hot throughout the whole show, Adams/Eaton and Garvin/X also got a lot of attention and support
- Mr. X had a great in ring performance and that is why he shouldn't really tag with Lothario anymore
- Bundy struggled a bit without a script, but Akbar did really well and covered some of his client's flaws
WCCW Independence Day Star Wars 26.07.1983 - WCCW American Heavyweight Title: Kevin von Erich (c) vs. Michael Hayes - No Disqualification Match: Kevin von Erich & David von Erich vs. Terry Gordy & Buddy Roberts - Ted DiBiase vs. Terry Funk - #1 Contender Battle Royal: Jimmy Garvin vs. King Kong Bundy vs. Mr. X vs. José Lothario vs. The Great Kabuki vs. Magic Dragon vs. Iceman Parsons vs. Dory Funk Jr. vs. Bill Irwin vs. Stan Hansen - Open Challenge: Dick Murdoch vs. ? - WCCW American Tag Titles: Chris Adams & Tommy Rich vs. The Fantastics - The Midnight Express vs. Brian Adias & Ricky Morton
Show will be posted this Friday or Saturday!

WCCW INDEPENDENCE DAY STAR WARS 26.07.1983 FORT WORTH, TX ATTENDANCE: 38834 TV RATING: 0.14 SHOW RATING: 75
RICKY MORTON & BRIAN ADIAS vs. THE MIDNIGHT EXPRESS Morton and Adias have good chemistry, but it seems like they have a lot of work to do as Eaton and Condrey work incredibly well as a team! Morton is isolated and the heels work on his legs for several minutes with a lot of mean spirit, but Adias finally gets the hot tag! The match gets really quick and Adias gets hit low by Condrey, so Eaton can finish jim with the alabama jam! (68) (12:30)
Dick Murdoch is already in the ring and awaits for the mystery opponent, that ends up being... Adrian Adonis! (65)
OPEN CHALLENGE DICK MURDOCH vs. ADRIAN ADONIS Murdoch seems quite annoyed about the fact that somebody like Adonis has answered the challenge and the announcers notice his frustration as he can't overpower his opponent. The two hit each other with violent strikes and the match can't go really long. Adonis misses a lariat and Murdoch, after failing it before, finally hits the brainbuster on his opponent for the pinfall! (63) (10:07)
On stage Bill Mercer interviews the Freebirds about tonight's matches. Michael Hayes has a deal for Kevin von Erich and asks that nobody is allowed at ringside for their matchup! (70)
WCCW AMERICAN TAG TITLES CHRIS ADAMS & TOMMY RICH (c) vs. THE FANTASTICS These two teams have been fighting for months and the announcers notice that the champions are making some silly mistakes due to their vow to get revenge on the heels for the previous sneaky attacks. It's a very close match, as they are 1-1 on their records anyway. Adams superkicks Fulton to avoid a double move from the Fantastics and Rich finishes Rogers with the sitout slam! (69) (11:18)
In ring Ted DiBiase and Bobby Heenan make fun of Terry Funk, saying that he might be the pride of Texas but can't compare with their ability, wealth and brain! They were sent here by Ric Flair to put people like him in their place... but Terry Funk runs towards to the ring and the match can start! (75)
TED DIBIASE (w/ Bobby Heenan) vs. TERRY FUNK Funk and DiBiase are finally wrestling one on one and it looks like Funk couldn't wait, as he jumps his opponent quickly and creates a huge brawl at ringside! DiBiase takes over thanks to Heenan and Funk bleeds all over the ring, selling his wounds. DiBiase asks Heenan to pass him the black glove, but Dory Funk Jr. arrives to stop them! DiBiase barks at Dory, but he runs into Terry's piledriver! 1... 2... 3! Funk wins! (79) (13:34)
On stage Bill Mercer interviews Jimmy Garvin regarding the battle royal. Garvin says he will win it and get a title shot at the American Title! Sunshine also adds that it's so refreshing to not have Terry Taylor and Sherri's face around them! (70)
#1 CONTENDER BATTLE ROYAL BILL IRWIN vs. CHECKMATE vs. DORY FUNK JR vs. ICEMAN PARSON vs. JIMMY GARVIN vs. JOSE' LOTHARIO vs. KING KONG BUNDY vs. MAGIC DRAGON vs. MR. X vs. STAN HANSEN X eliminates Dragon after trying to pull his mask off and he argues with Lothario about it, which gives Bundy the chance to eliminate both of them! The final four sees Garvin, Bundy, Dory and Hansen. Garvin is distracted by Sherri, who arrives to attack Sunshine, and he gets eliminated! Bundy is on fire and at war with his rival Hansen. Dory gets in the middle and a furious three way brawl starts, with Hansen managing to get the upper hands and winning the match! (75) (11:06)
Postmatch Hansen celebrate his victory, while Bundy is absolutely furious! (68)
NO DISQUALIFICATION MATCH KERRY VON ERICH & DAVID VON ERICH vs. BUDDY ROBERTS & TERRY GORDY The referee can barely just ring the bell, as these four of course jump on each other straight away! A part of the brawl also takes place between the crowd and nobody holds back. The Birds also use a chair and David bleeds due to being hit a few times in the face! The match gets even more tense and David finally applies the claw on Roberts! Gordy tries to save him, but Kerry knocks him down with a dropkick and Roberts has to tap out! (84) (13:47)
In ring Gary Hart approaches Kevin von Erich and asks him about Michael Hayes' proposition or banning any interference from the match, nobody will be allowed to touch any of them or they will be fired on the spot. Kevin accepts and can't wait to kick Hayes' ass! (75)
WCCW AMERICAN HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE KEVIN VON ERICH (c) vs. MICHAEL HAYES The match has different paces, as Hayes tries to slow it down to contain Kevin's rage, while the champion goes crazy at times but also knows his strengths and dominates Hayes on the mat for a bit. Hayes wrestles a great match without anyone's help, but Kevin seems ready for the clutch... when Gordy drags David von Erich on stage and Roberts swings a chair! Kevin lets go and tries to leave the ring, but referee warns him not to! Kerry arrives to save his brother and they fight on stage, but Kevin turns around... and he's kicked low and then with a DDT by Hayes! Hayes also gets leverage on the ropes and the referee doesn't see it! 1... 2... 3! Hayes has done it! (71) (15:31)
Postmatch Kevin and David run to the ring, but Hayes grabs the belt and runs through the crowd with Roberts and Gordy! The Freebirds have cheated again and now also have the American Title! The von Erichs are absolutely furious! (85)
Show notes
- What a great night! Just improved our attendance record this year and also had our MOTY so far (Kerry/David vs. Roberts/Gordy)!
- Surprisingly, Kevin wasn't too happy about losing the title to Hayes and thought that he had more time with the belt. I made him look really strong in the match and he was happy enough to do it that way, with The Birds cheating around a new match stipulation. Hayes as a champion shakes things up and also gives him some due for the great work this year
- Speaking of great work, Hayes, David and DiBiase were the top 3 performers and I have complimented them publicly after the show
- The backstage morale was positively affected by a pre-show speech, it was my first time doing one and it went well
- I will bring Hansen back and that explains his win in the battle royal, plus it continues the feud with Bundy without a definive finish
- Speaking of the battle royal, Great Kabuki still wasn't 100% and so Checkmate replaced him. Nobody saw it as a big deal as it wasn't a featured match and changing just a participant is not a problem
- DiBiase and Heenan have great chemistry and the feud with Funk is getting really really hot, a close second to my top storyline
- I don't plan on bringing Adonis back soon, but he did well with Murdoch in their match
- The only match where I didn't have a clear winner in my mind was Rich/Adams vs. Fantastics, as I could argue both cases. I decide to go with the babyfaces, but I will soon plan the tag title scene for the rest of the year
