October 5th - 11th 1983
- Ted DiBiase has fully recovered from his injury and will be wrestling on this week's TV show as planned
- Gary Hart took the time to praise Bobby Eaton for his performances and I have to agree with him, the story is working well and I still haven't pulled the trigger on Midnight Express vs. Rock & Roll Express
- I have signed a new wrestler, but also gave him a month off. He will finish his other commitments and then start working dark matches probably, there is no reason to rush him at the moment as I have all my card planned throughout the end of the year. Really excited about this though!
- I have also signed somebody else, Jimmy Garvin's real wife, Precious. She has been assigned to CState to polish her managerial skills, Garvin was really happy about her coming on board
- News from the wrestling world: after months of financial crisis, CWA has now been getting slightly better production values; BTW in the UK just got a TV deal; PPW has cancelled last week's PPV as they don't have enough wrestlers available to run one
WCCW TV 11.10.1983
Dallas, TX
Attendance: 12400
TV rating: 0.61
Show rating: 80
Robert Gibson & Brian Adias def. The Fantastics by DQ in 6:19 when the Midnight Express hit the ring and attack Adias, who seemed ready to finish Rogers off (69)
On stage, Bill Mercer interviews Stan Hansen and Bruiser Brody about Devastation Inc. challenge from last week. Hansen can't wait to do it, but Gary Hart interrupts them and says that he won't sign the match lightly, as putting them two, Bundy and Murdoch in the same ring could be a huge risk. Hart promises to get back to them next week, but Hansen and Bundy are disappointed! (72)
WCCW Texas Heavyweight Title Tournament First Round: Ted DiBiase (w/ Bobby Heenan) def. Terry Taylor (w/ Sherri) in 9:03. Sherri has a breakdown when DiBiase threatens to punch her, almost remembering Garvin's punch, and this leads to Taylor getting distracted (75)
On stage Bill Mercer interviews Jimmy Garvin, who sends Sunshine to the back and talk about how gorgeous he will look with the Texas Title! Mr. X interrupts and says he will have to go through him first. Tito Santana also joins and recommends them not to underestimate him, but Bill Irwin does the same as he's wrestling Santana next week. It gets tense and security arrives to make sure things don't get out of hand (55)
Chris Adams & Tommy Rich def. Magic Dragon & Checkmate (w/ Great Kabuki and Armand Hussein) in 6:08. The announcers confirm that Adams and Rich will get their title rematch at Star Wars, while Mr. X is there applauding the babyfaces as usual (58)
From his ranch, Terry Funk comments on his title shot and says that he's been around the world and won everything, including the NWA World Title that Ric Flair lost, but he's never been the WCCW American Heavyweight Champion. Michael Hayes better be ready, because winning a title in Texas before his own fans will be a dream come true! (83)
Kevin von Erich def. Buddy Roberts in 12:09 with an inside cradle (81)
Postmatch The Freebirds jump to the ring and attack Kevin 3 against 1, but David von Erich makes the save with a chair! David wants the Birds now, but the Birds back off. Hayes grabs a microphone and says that David seems so eager to hit everyone with a chair, as they injured both him and his brother Kerry, so at Star Wars it can be him and Kevin vs. Roberts and Gordy! (87)
Show notes
- All figures have been consistent this week, David has once again been the MVP with a great performance and the crowd just loves him. I have a main event in mind for the go home show and will announce that in advance, let's see if that pops a rating/attendance of if fans just turn up because WCCW is hot at the moment
- Roberts is clearly the weak link of the von Erichs vs. Freebirds feud, even though his performances are not bad at all
- Funk killed it with his promo, I think him and Hayes will do really well in face to face segments
- DiBiase underperformed apparently, but his match with Taylor was still good and made better by Sherri as usual
- Another bad performance from Brody, as Hansen had to carry him through the promo, I made my thoughts really clear to him. Let's get this match in the ring as I have been hyping it for months and then we'll see
- The tag division can be really tricky to handle, but I'm happy with the performances to be honest. The Fantastics are still a decent addition, while Dragon/Kabuki are getting toe to toe with their opponents and might deserve a bigger challenge down the line
