Another cool show with more Freebirds bullsh*t, serving as great build for the Chairs are Legal Match. I didn't know venues could grow in capacity if tickets were selling well.
The card for Autumn Star Wars is awesome. Ted DiBiase has a big advantage going into the final (which I'm honestly not a fan of, but...).

As fun as imagining Cornette heaping shit on Tommy Rich is, I'd have popped if Matt Borne had decided to go after Tommy for no reason.

WCCW AUTUMN STAR WARS 28.10.1983 EL PASO, TX ATTENDANCE: 44675 TV RATING: 0.15 SHOW RATING: 72
NWA TEXAS HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE TOURNAMENT SEMIFINAL TITO SANTANA vs. JIMMY GARVIN (w/ Sunshine) The announcers note that both men have a tough job as they will be wrestling twice while Ted DiBiase will be fresher. They rely a lot on matwork, Garvin tries to keep the pace down and works over Santana's legs. Santana has a good comeback and avoids Garvin's tricks, then applies a figure four leglock! They are both in pain, as Santana's legs hurt too, but Garvin taps out! Santana goes to the final! (79) (10:07)
Postmatch both men are on the floor with leg pain and Sunshine enters the ring to check on... Santana? Santana thanks her and leaves, while Garvin is furious about what he just saw! (70)
THE FANTASTICS vs. THE ROCK & ROLL EXPRESS The Midnight Express, as announced, are not on the show and Gary Hart says they will pay their coward ways, as whoever wins this match will be first in line for a title shot. Morton is isolated for several minutes, but things don't go out of hands as RR are as quick as the Fantastics. Gibson clears the ring when he gets the out tag, then the RR hit a double dropkick on Fulton for the pinfall! (73) (11:43)
Backstage Bill Mercer interviews Terry Funk, who admits how life is weird as he was trying for months to get Ric Flair to accept his challenge for the NWA World Title, but that has now gone and he can win the American Title instead, something he never won before! He doesn't respect Michael Hayes, but respects his abilities and won't undermine him (87)
WCCW AMERICAN TAG TITLES THE GREAT KABUKI & MAGIC DRAGON (c) (w/ Armand Hussein) vs. CHRIS ADAMS & TOMMY RICH The babyfaces dominate the match, but their tags are not frequent and the announcers note that they might be too tense tonight as it might be their last chance. Checkmate arrives at ringside, but Mr. X arrives to stop him! They brawl and nobody sees Kabuki spitting his mist on Adams! Adams wants to superkick him... but superkicks Rich instead! Dragon covers Rich and they retain! (58) (8:55)
Taped promo from Stan Hansen and Bruiser Brody, who admit not being at 100% but tonight it's about making a point on Devastation Inc. and so they will finally prove them who's the most dominant duo! (73)
STAN HANSEN & BRUISER BRODY vs. KING KONG BUNDY & DICK MURDOCH (w/ Skandor Akbar) Jim Ross says that this was billed as a dream match, but dreams are pretty and this will not! It's a total slugfest, the teams fight everywhere and the poor referee can't control them like he would love to! Tension is in the air and Murdoch trips Brody, causing him to stop. Brody turns and Bundy hits him with a lariat and then a big splash! Murdoch keeps Brody's ankles down for the 3 and Hansen can't save him! Devastation Inc. has done it! (76) (9:36)
In ring Ted DiBiase calls out Tito Santana, who's clearly limping. DiBiase offers Santana to just forfeit the match and get a title shot at a later date, but Santana slaps him and the match is on! (80)
NWA TEXAS HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE TOURNAMENT FINAL TED DIBIASE (w/ Bobby Heenan) vs. TITO SANTANA Santana is on fire and tries to end the match quickly, knowing that his leg is not doing well, but Heenan saves DiBiase and gets the match going on a couple of occasions. DiBiase works on Santana's leg, of course, and keeps control for most of the match. Santana finally has a reaction and tries a crossbody, but his leg trips and he falls right on DiBiase's punch! DiBiase covers him and wins the title! (73) (12:13)
On stage Bill Mercer interviews the Fabulous Freebirds, who accuse WCCW of conspiracies with all this big matches in a row, Michael Hayes now has a broken wrist due the last TV episode and the chairs will also be legal in the tag match! Gary Hart warns the Birds, as people paid their money to see matches and that what they'll get! (73)
CHAIRS ARE LEGAL BUDDY ROBERTS & TERRY GORDY vs. DAVID VON ERICH & KEVIN VON ERICH The teams of course start fighting right away and Hart on commentary confirms that DQs are on in this match, but use of chairs will be legal. The Birds try to use them right away, but the von Erichs manage to stop them, even though they struggle a lot in the middle part until David gets the hot tag. Kevin has Roberts in the claw, but David wants revenge for the chair shots that injured him months ago. Kevin uses a dropkick so Gordy drops the chair he was using and David uses the chair to smash Gordy right in the skull and get the pinfall! (87) (15:07)
Postmatch Kevin and David celebrate and block Michael Hayes while Roberts and Gordy are placed in an ambulance! Hayes freaks out, but the ambulance departs... there will be no Freebirds shenanigans in the main event! (78)
WCCW AMERICAN HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MICHAEL HAYES (c) vs. TERRY FUNK The match starts and Hayes seems cornered, as he tries to use a chair right away but Funk blocks him! Hayes then grabs the belt and runs away through the crowd to reach another exit, but the von Erichs are there and block it! Funk reaches Hayes and they battle in the crowd and Hayes gets bloody after an infinite series of punches! Hayes is dropped to his knees in the ring and asks for mercy, but it's a trick and he hits Funk low! Hayes wants to hit the ddt, but Funk blocks it by hitting the injured wrist and piledrives Hayes! 1... 2... 3! (65) (10:42)
Postmatch Funk celebrates and the crowd goes crazy, as the Freebirds have finally lost the main title in WCCW! The von Erichs thanks Funk and hand him the belt, Funk has won the big one that he was missing! (75)
Show notes
- A few records were set tonight: 44675 is my biggest attendance ever and the tag semi-main event was the match of the year for me so far
- However, the overall score for Star Wars is quite disappointing and it was all due to the main event not delivering. I found myself cornered, as this had to be the main event due to the title change and I knew that Hayes's injury was going to spoil it. I kept it short, overbooked it and limited his involvement, but the match still suffered. I thought about doing a non finish and use the tag match to close the show, but I have already had my ratio of cheap finishes and I needed the title switch to focus on the upcoming season finale
- Did it spoil Funk's victory? Hopefully no, as the crowd was really happy anyway and he hyped them well with a masterful promo early on. I wanted Dory Jr. to be there and celebrate with Funk, but he had other commitments
- Can't really say much about the tag match, as it spoke for itself and it was a beautiful piece of business. David was the MVP again and I publicly praised him, but all the participants received $1000 bonus for the bout
- I'm quite satisfied about the big men tag match as well, but Brody was off his game once again and complained about going under, even though it was done in the dirtiest way possible. Everytime I do business with him something happens and I'm not really thrilled with him anymore, I criticized for his performance and he ignored me in front of the whole locker room. More on him next week, I promise
- DiBiase is the new Texas Heavyweight champion and this is the culmination of months of great matches and promos for him, well deserved. I'm hyped about his reign and also think that Santana benefitted from the two angles with Garvin and his leg injury
- The match for the Tag Titles, albeit passable, was easily the worst of the night and Rich wasn't happy about losing either. Again, this was done in a way he has lots of excuses and everything and a good angle, but he keeps on being a pain. At least his performances are not underwhelming like Brody's

Ridiculously good show, with some great storytelling in the last two matches being the highlight for me. A simple chair shot to the skull is something we see regularly nowadays, but back in the 80s it was rare, so it makes perfect sense to end a match like that. Having Funk winning the main event and the title is amazing!

November 1st - 4th 1983
- As mentioned, Bruiser Brody was once again creating issues in a locker room due to his unwillingness to do business. Brody only has 2 weeks left on his 6 months deal and I won't renew it, which he shouldn't even mind as he likes to be a freelancer. Brody is still over and friends with the von Erichs, so I want to avoid an incident, but I don't seriously want him around anymore and I'll write him off TV soon
- I got money to spend anyway, as we made $653k in October, our best month yet
- Another von Erich has joined the business! 19 years old Mike has been signed straight away and sent to CState. His whole family seems really supportive, even though Mike doesn't seem to have the potential that his 3 older brothers have. Let's see...
- Michael Hayes is still recovering and that is not a problem, as I gave all the Freebirds the week off due to what happened at Star Wars
- WWF is not the 2nd biggest company in the world anymore, that position now goes to GCW, who had some really good shows and benefits from having their show on a big TV network like TNT. I seriously need to keep an eye on them, as the wrestlers we share (Stan Hansen and Tommy Rich) are already working on their shows only in case of conflicting dates
- News from the wrestling world: AWA is starting a Martel vs. Bockwinkel feud for the title; Nobuhiko Takada is taking time off wrestling to train for MMA
WCCW TV 04.11.1983 Dallas, TX Attendance: 13700 TV rating: 0.63 Show rating: 80
The Rock & Roll Express & Brian Adias def. Great Kabuki, Magic Dragon & Checkmate in 8:14 when Morton rolls up Dragon. On commentary, Gary Hart announces Kabuki & Dragon vs. RR for Star Wars and wonders if the Midnight Express will regret taking a holiday when their rivals are doing so well and just got themselves a title shot at the American Tag Team Titles (68)
Taped Terry Funk promo, in the locker room after winning the American Heavyweight Title. Funk says that this title represent his hard work and also how far WCCW has come in the last few years. Other former World champions are talking about him, but he’s got gold and they don’t! Funk will be on the show next week and can’t wait to kick some butts (85)
Jimmy Garvin (w/ Sunshine) def. Iceman Parsons in 6:55 with a roll up and holding his tights. Tito Santana is watching the match from the stage and Sunshine turns to look at him a few times, until Garvin shouts at her and forbids her to turn around (67)
On stage Bill Mercer interviews Kevin and David von Erich. The brothers are happy about Michael Hayes losing the American Title and want a shot down the line, but they still have a score to settle against the Freebirds. Gary Hart steps in and announces a Texas Death Match between David and Terry Gordy at Star Wars! (74)
Terry Taylor (w/ Sherri) def. Bill Irwin in 5:12. During the match, Ted DiBiase gets to ringside to show off the NWA Texas Heavyweight Title and scare Sherri again, pretending to hit her but then laughs and leaves (73)
On stage Bill Mercer interviews Tommy Rich, who’s not happy about not being the Tag Team champion with Chris Adams, who’s at home resting after being hit in the eyes by the mist. Rich assures that he’s not mad at Adams, yes he superkicked him and costed them the match, but he knows he couldn’t see a thing. Mr. X arrives and asks Rich to be his new partner, but Rich pushes X and leaves (62)
David von Erich & Kevin von Erich def. Dick Murdoch & King Kong Bundy (w/ Skandor Akbar) in 13:04 when Stan Hansen and Bruiser Brody interfere and allow Kevin to pin Murdoch after a running knee (82)
Postmatch Gary Hart stops everyone from fighting to announce the main event of Star Wars: Kevin von Erich, Terry Funk, Stan Hansen & Bruiser Brody vs. Michael Hayes, Terry Gordy, King Kong Bundy & Dick Murdoch in a Gauntlet Cage Match! The man that will score the pinfall will have the chance to make a wish, but the loser will pay a price! (84)
Show notes
- Best TV attendance and best TV rating have been achieved again! It's incredible how I just added 1300 seats to the Sportatorium and we sold out again! More seats please!
- Freebirds and Funk were off TV and I'm happy about what we accomplished, the von Erichs led the way as usual
- The Star Wars main event is me copying both WCW's War Games and ECW's Ultimate Jeopardy! If it works well, this might become a yearly event
- Funk cut another fantastic promo
- Parsons didn't perform too well and it's not the first time this happens
- The opener was strongly received and I'm happy to see those boys getting good reactions
WCCW Thanksgiving Star Wars 28.11.1983 - Gauntlet Cage Match: Terry Funk, Stan Hansen, Bruiser Brody & Kevin von Erich vs. Michael Hayes, Buddy Roberts, King Kong Bundy & Dick Murdoch - Texas Death Match: David von Erich vs. Terry Gordy - WCCW American Tag Titles: Great Kabuki & Magic Dragon (c) vs. Rock & Roll Express

Hopefully your playing as the owner, because if not Fritz may resign Brody without you knowing about it. I don't know if that happens in TEW 2020. I know for fact it happens in TEW 2016.

It seemed too obvious to do a WarGames type of match between the Von Erichs and The Freebirds, so I'm glad you managed to shake things up. I'm a HUGE fan of the Ultimate Jeopardy concept, so I look forward to know what's in stake for each competitor involved in the match. A Cage and Texas Death Match in the same show? A real Thanksgiving treat.
About Brody... I really like him, but you don't really need him.
