Starting to run house shows in Mexico is groundbreaking, and a very risky move, but I hope it pays off. I hope Mil Mascaras stays away from this! Maybe a talent trading deal with EMLL can help you?
I liked the post-main event angle, possibly creating some tension in the von Erich brothers. It would be monumental to see one of them turn heel and starting to get trashed every week by the rowdy Texan crowds.

WCCW Winter Star Wars 28.02.1984 San Antonio, TX Attendance: 55980 TV rating: 0.67 Show quality: 83NWA TEXAS HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE TED DIBIASE (c) (w/ Bobby Heenan) vs DORY FUNK JR DiBiase shows that he learned a lot from Flair and stalls as much as he can to avoid a physical contact with Dory at the beginning of the match, but Dory more rational than his brother and doesn't lose his mind when provoked. Funk takes DiBiase to the mat and does really well, dominating most of the sequences, then replying with a hard punch when a frustrated DiBiase slaps him! DiBiase wants to leave the match and grabs the belt, but Funk hold shim and even the referee stops the count, which infuriates Heenan! Heenan gets sent away from ringside, which allows DiBiase to kick Dory low and turn the match around. DiBiase cheats in any way he can to keep the momentum on his opponent, while Dory can't seem to turn things around. DiBiase gets frustrated for the lack of resolution and gets the black glove from his tights, but Dory kicks it away! DiBiase loses his mind and wants to piledrive Dory Jr, who blocks it and uses his weight for a bridge on DiBiase. 1... 2... 3! Dory Funk won the Texas Title! (90) (12:31)
Postmatch Terry Funk celebrates with his brother and threatens Ric Flair, saying that he will conquer his gold too! (84) IMPROPTU MATCH
BRIAN ADIAS vs MAGNUM T.A. Magnum T.A. is the surprise opponent for Adias, after Terry Taylor got injured. Taylor and Sherri get down to ringside to watch the match and Adias tells Taylor to just watch what a real match is supposed to be. Adias and Magnum shake hands and proceed to have a clean and open match, Adias is quicker and more resilient, while Magnum holds his own on the mat and also uses his better physique to take down his opponent. Adias hits a dive on TA, that ends up hitting Taylor as well and it was surely on purpose! Taylor is upset and says something is Sherri's ear and she nods. Adias frees himself from a bearhug and gets on the top rope, but Sherri throws one of her shoes in the ring! The referee removes it annoyed and Adias got distracted, so TA throws him off the turnbuckle! Belly to belly suplex from Magnum and he pins Adias to start his WCCW career with a bang! Taylor applauds and it seems like him and Magnum are suspiciously friendly! (65) (7:07)
Backstage Bill Mercer interviews the Fabolous Freebirds, who are ready to show the world the new and improved version of the Birds! (82)
WCCW WORLD TAG TITLES MIDNIGHT EXPRESS (c) vs TOMMY RICH & CHRIS ADAMS The announces mention that this will likely be the last chance for Rich and Adams, they hold the belts last year but then lost it, and since then they had more than a chance and weren't able to win them back. Rich and Adams feel the pressure indeed, as they approach the match with a lot of caution and don't take too many risks, which helps the champions isolate Adams for several minutes due to Rich's being unwilling to do too much to avoid a disqualification. Adams and Rich doesn't seem on the same page and Adams tags Rich in quite an annoyed way when he finally reaches his ring corner. Rich uses his freshness and size to clear the ring pretty effectively, but then tries to do everything by himself and Adams decides to get involved to save him. Adams lariats Condrey out of the ring, but Condrey is quicker than Rich and pokes him in the eyes, then hitting him with a double underhook piledriver to retain the titles! (72) (11:05) Backstage Bill Mercer interviews Devastation Inc. Skandor Akbar laughs at Stan Hansen for challenging Bundy to a Texas Death Match, as he can't be pinned! (73)
TEXAS DEATH MATCH KING KONG BUNDY (w/ Skandor Akbar) vs STAN HANSEN The announcers think that Hansen was crazy to pitch this match, as they explain the rules and mention that Akbar was right, you need to pin your opponent for them to be counted and Bundy hasn't been pinned in more than a year! Hansen seems determined and, as soon as the match starts, lariats Akbar to take him out of the picture! Akbar is taken out by Dick Murdoch, who vows revenge while Bundy seems upset about what happened. It's a slugfest and both men get bloody quite quickly, especially because they are allowed to punch properly due to lack of disqualifications. Bundy pins Hansen after a big splash, but Hansen gets up at 8 despite the bad ribs. Bundy keeps hitting there, only for Hansen to headbutt him hard! Bundy is loopy and Hansen lariats him! Bundy rebounds on the ropes and comes back... for another lariat! Hansen finally pins Bundy, who had a foot on the rope, but it doesn't count due to the stipulation! The referee counts to 10 and Hansen wins!!! (84) (10:42) Backstage Bill Mercer interviews Ric Flair, who is calming down Ted DiBiase. Flair says that the Texas Title has gone for now, they will get it back, but now they have to follow the plan and defend the World Title... if the title goes, so does the money! DiBiase nods (80)
TITO SANTANA (w/ Sunshine) vs BILL IRWIN The announcers speculate on what was that bottle of beer that Irwin gave to Sunshine at the last TV show and Irwin brings another one at ringside today, it's a bottle that clearly says "non-Texan beer" and that Irwin proudly shows to the camera. Irwin offers it to Sunshine again and Santana is really offended, so he keeps Sunshine away from his opponent and dares him to fight. It's a different match, compared to the one they had at the last Star Wars, as for some reason Irwin seems more interested in promoting his beer and keeps his cowboy hats on until Santana launches it in the crowd, which finally gets Irwin angry and more focused on the match. Santana seems to have a clear advantage on his opponent and the announcers speculate that Irwin might be drunk as well. Irwin actually opens the beer he had, spills a bit on Sunshine and drinks the rest, but Santana kicks him right in the face! Irwin spits the beer everywhere and Santana finishes him with a crossbody for the 3 count! (69) (8:13) Backstage Bill Mercer interviews the von Erich and asks about their recent issues... but Kevin stops him and says they are more united than ever, they will prove it once again! (86)
WCCW WORLD SIX MEN TAG TITLES THE VON ERICHS (c) vs THE FABULOUS FREEBIRDS
It's the first time that the von Erichs are facing the new Freebirds in a six men match, as Jimmy Garvin is now replacing Buddy Roberts with an attire that is a bit more revealing that his new partners'. Garvin wants to show that he can hang with the big boys and insists to start the match, but he ends up falling victim of the great chemistry and action of the von Erichs, who seem to have put their own issues behind them. Gordy comes to the rescue, being the big man of the match, and powerbombs Kerry on the ringside floor! Kerry is taken away in a stretcher, despite Kevin shaking him and trying to get him back in the ring! It's a 3 vs 2 now and the announcers praise the von Erichs for their fighting spirit and attitude. Kevin finally gives David the hot tag and David clears the ring, but it doesn't last for long. Kevin sacrifices his body with a top rope dive, taking out both Hayes and Gordy! It's Garvin vs. David now and David seems ready to finish the match! But Kerry is back, even though he can't stand, and tags himself in! David is surprised and confronts his brother, who assured him it's fine... but Garvin DDTs Kerry! 1... 2... 3! David can't believe his eyes, as Garvin has just pinned Kerry and won the titles for the Freebirds! (79) (15:25) Postmatch David is upset at Kerry, who swears that he was only trying to help. Kevin watches from ringside and goes away, refusing an interview from Bill Mercder! (85)
WCCW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE NO DISQUALIFICATION MATCH RIC FLAIR (c) vs TERRY FUNK Funk is ready for the rematch and still resents Flair for the way he got the title away from him 2 months ago. Flair takes it easy, gets rid of his robe and the title in a slow way, which only makes Funk angrier and more aggressive. The announcers point out that this time there won't be any disqualifications, so Flair will need to beat Funk and can't use the tricks that he has become famous for. Funk dominates the match, turning it into a slugfest and violently punches Flair in the ring and all around it, making him bleed after a few minutes. Flair doesn't take many risks and focuses on Funk's right leg, trying to stop his movements and get an easy path to the figure four. Funk gets a chair involved and hits Flair, the referee taps him from behind and Funk hits him too! Funk realizes what he's done and tries to wake him up, but Ted DiBiase makes his way down the ring! DiBiase punches Funk and wants to use the black glove, but Funk lariats him! But here's the Midnight Express! Eaton and Condrey assault Funk, who now is really struggling against 4 opponents! Dory Jr arrives and pushes DiBiase away, while Funk gets up and lariats both MNX... but Flair hits him with the piledriver! 1... 2... Funk kicks out! Flair uses the black glove on Funk! 1... 2... 3! Flair retains thanks to MNX and DiBiase! (81) (17:27)
Postmatch Flair is helped by DiBiase and Heenan, while MNX cheer! Flair puts 4 fingers up and so do the others! The announcers don't know what to say, while the show ends... (81)
Show notes
- 55980 is my all time attendance record!
- So yes, stay turned to see what happens on the heels of the main event and the postmatch! Flair is still far from putting on classic matches in his recent stint, but things are getting better and he's a perfect champion
- Dory and DiBiase just put on an amazing opener, the match of the year so far for me. I think that the crowd will salivate for a rematch, especially as the finish wasn't 100% decisive
- The 3v3 was definitely the letdown of the night, as I was expecting a great match and it didn't deliver. It's hard to explain why, as they all busted their butts and the chemistry was there, but the crowd lost interest at some point... Garvin's pinfall is a strong statement, like the von Erichs' crises
- Hansen vs. Bundy has come to an end and I think it was a good feud. Bundy once again has an excuse for not being pinned in a legit way, while Hansen won the feud. There was not enough selling according to Joe Blanchard, but the match was quite good to be fair
- I signed Magnum T.A. a month ago and was using him in dark matches, but Terry Taylor's injury sped up his push. I think he's an amazing talent and hopefully what I want to do with him will work well
- Rich was not happy about dropping the fall and it's not the first time. As revealed a few weeks ago, he won't stay long with me probably, but he surely won't be in main stories or holding titles
- The crowd didn't enjoy Santana vs. Irwin, despite it being a solid contest, as it was positioned wrong on the card according to them. I think that it was the perfect quieter match before the 2 main events, but oh well
- Dory and DiBiase were praised and received a $1000 bonus for their great match. Magnum TA was also complimented for his good debut

I was THIS CLOSE from betting on Dory... loved his win, tbh.
Oh my, Magnum T.A.!!!! Glad to have him around, as your roster reaaaaally needed him (NOT! But Magnum is a huge asset).
Smart booking on the Hansen vs. Bundy match.
Troubles arise in the von Erich family... I'm all in for a Kerry heel turn. I've always thought his look is 100% heel.
I... I... are you trying to book a different version of The Four Horsemen? Flair, DiBiase, Eaton and Condrey... that sounds perfect to me.
Overall, it's another great show and I'm already expecting another Star Wars!

March 1st - 4th 1984
- February was a successful month and I have made $1.3 millions, mostly thanks to the successful Star Wars event
- Magnum T.A. now has a "ripped" physique and also seems "off the gas", which is really good
- Both Tommy Rich (jobbed at the supershow) and Mr. X (fined due to being unable to compete) are unhappy, but backstage morale is still really high
- Al Madril's contract is expiring next month. I signed him for a year when he was the TV champions and safe to say that he's never delivered, despite being reliable and quite useful in dark matches. As no one else wanted to really sign him, I offered him a pay per appearance deal worth $200 and he accepted
- News from the wrestling world: Butch Reed will be out of action of 5 months (I wanted to bring him back!); Nick Bockwinkel entered a AWA feud with Mike Graham and it will probably be the last before his retirement; NJPW has signed the young prospect Keichii Yamada!
WCCW TV 04.03.1984 Dallas, TX Attendance: 18400 TV rating: 0.79 Show quality: 79
The announcers are introducing the show, but David von Erich quickly arrives to the ring and he's not dressed to compete. David says that him and his brothers have been following his dad's footsteps since 1977 and it's been a great ride, but it stops here for him. Together they fought everyone and everything, but The Freebirds war is never-ending. The Birds have nothing to lose, they're here to make money and get power... but the von Erichs have everything to lose: their credibility, their popularity and their family. So, he's taking a step back. He's been wrestling in Texas since he was barely allowed to by law, but now he wants to travel the world and do what his family does best: fight and entertain the fans. Not destroying his own family and the territory his dad built with his blood, he won't be a part of that. David thanks the fans and leaves, but Fritz comes to the stage for the first time in almost a year and asks him to come back. David extends his hand to shake Fritz's, but Fritz refuses and says he didn't raise a coward! David tells his dad he loves him, puts his cowboy hat on and leaves, while the announcers don't know what to say (85)
Chris Adams & Tommy Rich def. Checkmate & Magic Dragon (w/ Arman Hussein and Great Kabuki) in 5:12 when Adams pins Checkmate (60)
Postmatch Kabuki jumps in the ring and the heels attack Adams. Kabuki wants to to mist Adams, but Mr. X makes his comeback! X clears the ring with a chair and threatens Kabuki, who wants to fight, but Hussein pushes him away from X (58)
The Fabulous Freebirds def. Al Perez, Eric Embry & DJ Peterson in 3:55 when Hayes pins Peterson (68)
Postmatch The Freebirds celebrate with the World Six Men Tag Titles and mock David von Erich for quitting! Hayes says that soon the other 2 brothers will do the same and they will rule the territory! Fans heavily boo the Birds, but a fan on the front row is particularly loud and Hayes goes face to face, telling the fan that he will beat him up! The fan removes his sunglasses and hat... and it's Buddy Roberts! Roberts punches a shocked Hayes in the face and then runs away through the crowd, while Hayes yells at his partners to chase him! (85)
Dick Murdoch def. Iceman Parsons in 4:03. The announcers notice that King Kong Bundy and Skandor Akbar are still away after all the Star Wars incidents and Murdoch closes the match with Stan Hansen's lariat to send him a message (67)
On stage Bill Mercer interviews Terry Taylor, Magnum T.A. and Sherri. Magnum tells Brian Adias that it was nothing personal, but he enjoyed beating him at Star Wars. Taylor says that he brought Magnum in because they're very much alike: blond, good looking and better than any Texan redneck! Matter of fact, they are the East Coast Rednecks and will make a name for themselves! (63)
The Funks def. Midnight Express by DQ in 10:00 when Ted DiBiase interferes. During the match, Bobby Heenan sends The Fantastics out to help MNX, but the Fantastics argue with MNX, saying they have waited too long for the title shot they promised. When things get dangerous, then it's DiBiase to run in for the DQ (78)
Postmatch The Funks dare the heels to come back to the ring, but DiBiase says that they are preparing for next week when World Champion Ric Flair will be in the house and they will celebrate the birth of the Four Horsemen! (80)
Show notes
- Another 18400 in attendance, so I'll add more seats to the Sportatorium!
- This was a strange episode, as I put most of my hope in David's opening segment, that shortened the time for the other matches and so forced me to build quite a few squashes. The Birds probably had the most entertaining squash I've ever seen as well. All being said, some segments weren't well received and so the experiment "more mic, less action" hasn't been a complete success... and I'm actually in favour of that!
- What's up with David? Tune in next week!
- With all that is going on, I kept key performers off the show to keep everything at a normal pace. Flair and the Horsemen will officially debut next week
- Roberts is now back as a babyface, even though he won't be kissing babies on TV. His feud with the Birds, especially Hayes, is quite of a logical step to take
- X's comeback was also well received, him and Kabuki are having a midcard feud but their ratings are quite acceptable for that
- So, the idea was Taylor to be by himself for a bit and then to be joined by Magnum, but his injury sped things up. Got to say that Magnum is doing well and also was quite good at this week's promo

A recap show, mostly, but a useful one. In fact, the David von Erich angle got way more interesting after that segment and that was, indeed, the highlight of the show.
Ah, I knew it! It is the Four Horsemen!
