| "Leon-san," Fumihiko says "we have a tough situation here in NJPW. Fans don't want to come to our show. Our world champion, Lesnar-san, is an unpredictable head case who could leave at any moment. As head booker, what would your plans to improve business"?
"Fumihiko-san, I will bring New Japan into the 21st Century pro wrestling. We need to bring style and flash to New Japan pro wrestling. For the first time, we're going to put homegrown New Japan talent first. No more overpaid Gaijin on top". Vader says. He takes a swig from the Boss Coffee on his desk.
"What will do with Champion Lesnar-san? Will Brock drop the title"? Fumihiko asks. "I like big guys. I want to push big guys like Lesnar-san in New Japan. I don't want Junior pro wrestlers to win the World Heavyweight title. Right now, I am not yet able to make a decision on the World Heavyweight Champion" Leon responds. |
If Vader doesn't want junior's to win the world title, and tanahashi is currently in the junior division, then does that mean he won't be the ace of new Japan in this diary?

Depends. If Tanahashi doesn't want to become a Heavyweight, I assume Vader will find someone who will.

World Pro Wrestling January 4th, 2006 |
| In a mediocre match, Jushin Thunder Liger defeats Yoshihito Sasaki with the Crash Thunder Buster. |
| Taguchi is backstage with Masahiro Chono. He wants to tell an old story. Once, there were four young wrestlers. One young wrestler, a decorate collegiate athlete, worked hard but not smart. He was rewarded with two wins in two great competitions, beating his peers. The other three wrestlers worked smart, but not hard. They got titles, nicknames and acclaim, these wrestlers were the next "big things". But their talent never matched their egos. In the end, the hard-working wrestler, he was better - at the end of the day, he was holding the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.
|
| Taguchi seems unfased by the decorated veteran grappler Fujinami. He takes hit after hit from his bigger opponent. His chest swells red from the stiff strikes. Frustrated, Fujinami starts throwing harder strikes at Taguchi. He hits a brutal looking German Suplex and bridges into a pin. Taguchi gets his foot on the ropes! Taguchi gets back in the match. He's got more stamina than the grizzled 50-something veteran. With agility, Taguchi dodges Fujinami's vicious striking game. He knocks Fujinami off his feet with a beautiful dropkick. After a second dropkick, Taguchi pulls himself onto the ring ropes. He hits a lovely Frog Splash from the top rope and moves right into the cover. The ref counts and Fujinami kicks out just after the three! Taguchi has defeated Fujinami in a major upset! What a way to kick off Toukon Shidou! Ryusuke Taguchi defeats Tatsumi Fujinami by pinfall!

| In a brutal match, Black Strong Machine and Manabu Nakanishi take out Akebono and Yutaka Yoshie when Nakanishi took out Akebono with the Mana Bauer. |
| IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Masuhiro Chono and Hiroyoshi Tenzan come down the ramp. Black Strong Machine and Manabu Nakanishi prepare to fight. Chono waves them off. He offers Strong Machine and Nakanishi a handshake. Strong Machine looks at Nakanishi, who looks back at Black Strong Machine.

Manabu Nakanishi shakes Masuhiro Chono's hand. Chono grabs the microphone.
Masuhiro Chono: Black New Japan has returned to the Tokyo Dome!
|
| The chaotic frenzy here gets the crowd involved early. All ten guys get some action and there are several spots where the match nearly breaks down. Ryusuki Taguchi, Shinjiro Otani, Tatsumi Fujimani, Tiger Mask & Yuji Nagata score the win over Black Tiger IV, Giant Bernard, Togi Makabe, Tomohiro Ishii & Toru Yano when Taguchi catches Ishii with a Doudon and scores the pinfall. |
| IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Match
The four high-flying juniors have a terrific match. Goto and Takanka keep the pressure on. Takaiwa and Kanemoto have the advantage early, leveraging their experience early to try to end quickly. The challengers can't keep up with the champions over the match. Hirooki Goto and Minoru Tanaka defeat Tatsuhiro Takaiwa & Koji Kanemoto to retain the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Titles when Goto scores the win over Kanemoto with a bridging Shouten Suplex into a pin.
|
| IWGP Heavyweight Tag Champion Masuhiro Chono is in the ring with IWGP World Heavyweight Title Challenger Shinsuke Nakamura. Nakamura says Brock is a big monster, way bigger than him. However, Nakamura with his kicks will cut the gigantic Lesnar down to size, and bring the IWGP Heavyweight Title back to Japan! |
| Ryoji Sai and Yamamoto had a match to forget in the ring. After a several tiresome minutes, Ryoji Sai pinned Naofumi Yamamoto after a Sky Kick. |
| IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Title Match
Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Masuhiro Chono take on the underdogs Takao Omori and Shiro Koshinika with the IWGP World Tag Team Titles on the line. The champions bully the smaller challengers throughout the match. Tenzan lays in with brutal body blows and Choho hits a beautiful Gory Special to Koshinika. He goes for the pin but Shiro kicks out at two. Omori and Koshinika just refuse to quit, and manage to take near fall after near fall to stay in the match. Omori and Koshinika are a makeshift team, and their inexperience causes their defeat. After Omori misses a hot tag, Tenzan isolates him and takes him down with the Anaconda Buster. IWGP Heavyweight Tag Champions Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Masuhiro Chono turn away challengers Shiro Koshinaka and Takao Omori when Tenzan pinned Omori. | |
| IWGP U-30 Openweight Title Match
Two Musketeers go head-to-head in a heated battle over the IWGP U-30 Openweight Title. Tanahashi and Shibata trade off with a strike trade off from the bell. Shibata turns up the intensity for the bout. Clearly, Katsuyori has something to prove. He begins working the champion's shoulder. He hits several knee lifts to the back. Shibata follows with kicks to the back. The two go to the ground, and both guys spend some time stretching each other. Shibata seems to get the better of Tanahashi with a Kimura lock. Tanahashi bridges out and the two run the ropes. He lauches at the challenger with the crossbody. Shibata counters Tanahashi into the octopus hold! Tanahashi pulls Shibata towards the ropes. Both wrestlers tumble from the ring onto the mat! There's a game of cat and mouse with both champion and challenger trying to get back in the ring. Eventually, Shibata gets the upper hand. He lays into the champion with several swift stomps to the hand. He then gets a knee drop to the arm. Tanahashi screams in pain. Shibata lays in several stiff kicks to Tanahashi. He throws the Champion to the ropes. Tanahashi rolls through and throws the challenger to the ground with a drop toe hold and continues with a slingshot senton! Tanahashi takes the initiative. He goes into high risk territory. Tanahashi leaps from the top rope. Shibata catches him and pulls the champion in for the Octopus hold! Hiroshi Tanahashi reverses it! He hits a beautiful stunner to Shibata! The champion pulls himself up to the top turnbuckle. Tanahashi slams into Shibata with the High Fly Flow! 1... 2... 3...! Hiroshi Tanahashi pins Katsuyori Shibata after hitting the High Fly Flow to retain the IWGP U-30 Openweight Title! |
| IWGP Heavyweight Title Match
One thing is clear: There is no love lost between IWGP Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar and the challenger Shinsuke Nakamura.
Both competitors jump the bell and lock up. Brock pushes the challenger to the corner and lays in a few headbutts to the chest. Nakamura then rolls out and goes for a Pele Kick. Brock ducks under and the two combatants lock up again. Brock again gets the better of the challenger. In response, Nakamura powders to the outside. The referee starts a ten-count.
Nakamura runs back in at 8, ducking under a Lesnar lariat before hitting a dropkick to the champion. Lesnar grabs the ropes to dodge a Nakamura dropkick. Then, the champion charges at Nakamura, but the challenger throws Brock to the mat with a neomgigi manuever! Nakamura straps on a STF! Then, the challenger slams several hard knees into Lesnar's thighs!
Nakamura begins working heavily over the champion's knees. Lesnar writhes in pain for a couple minutes. Eventually, Lesnar manages to reverse the hold. Champion and challenger reverse holds for several minutes, with both Lesnar and Nakamura wearing each other down. Lesnar gets the better of Nakamura, and eventually pulls Nakamura into position for the F-5. Nakamura attempts to fight out. Lesnar collides into the turnbuckle! Both men tumble to the outside!

I liked the matches, for sure, and Toukon Shidou was a solid show. I expected to see a title change, but I accept seeing none. It's definitely a different NJPW, that one of yours! Looking forward for more

Looking forward for more Thank you! The booking was different, but the matches and match order were pretty close to OTL Toukon Shidou Chapter 1. In "kayfabe", this is because Leon had only a few days with the book at this point. That will change in the future. I don't have a ton of experience with NJPW and Puroresu so hopefully I'm doing a passable job with write-ups. Glad to have you on board! -KYE

I think we're seeing the last of the U-30 Openweight Championship, as Lesnar will probably unify it with the Heavyweight belt. I'm ok with that, even though a U-30 Championship is a cool idea. Maybe we'll see another secondary title?

Maybe we'll see another secondary title? Or maybe we'll see an upset and have tanahashi go over Lesnar somehow. That way the ace can begin his reign as the hero who slayed the beast and go on to have lengthy feuds with nakamura and shibata, and Lesnar can go back inoki and his if promotion.
