Just 2 years after his supposedly "retirement". Roddy Piper made his return to the ring at WrestleMania 5 in a Match against Ted Dibiase and won.
Rick Rude took the steal of the night at WrestleMania when he stole the Ultimate Warrior's Intercontinental Championship by winning the match and capturing the gold for himself.
Before Hogan's big match against The Big Bossman in the Steel Cage. A Big Black Man by the name of Zeus attacked Hogan before the match.
But of course that didn't stop the Hulkster from winning against The Big Bossman as he got revenge on the corrupted Law Officer.
WrestleMania's Main Event closed out with one of the best battles of all time as Ric Flair and Randy Savage clashed for the World Wrestling Federation Championship.
But a shocking betrayal stunned everyone round the world as the referee was distracted by J.J. Dillon. Elizabeth struck Savage in the face with the WWF Championship Belt and that allowed Flair to sneak in the figure-four leg lock. Savage tried getting out of the hold for 3 minutes, but he started to pass out and the referee awarded Flair with the WWF Championship Belt as the fans similar to WrestleMania 1 threw trash to Ric Flair & Miss Elizabeth.
After, A dejected Randy Savage saw Ric Flair with Elizabeth and the WWF Title Belt over his shoulder with both Flair & Elizabeth sharing a kiss, WrestleMania went off the air with The Macho Man walking away from the Arena.

In Flair's first PPV Title Defense, he faced Hot Rod himself Roddy Piper, although Piper was close to winning the WWF Championship against Flair. Flair would escape the sleeper hold by using a victory roll to defeat Piper cleanly.

The Macho Man breaks his silence January 6, 1990
It's been one year since the Macho Man Randy Savage was last seen in the WWF after losing the WWF Championship at WrestleMania 5 to Ric Flair but losing the love of his life, Miss Elizabeth to Ric Flair as well, on an edition of Superstars, Savage said for the past 9 months he couldn't sleep or eat or anything, he was on the high as the World Wrestling Federation Champion in 1988, but now. He was used by Elizabeth, He loved Elizabeth, but Elizabeth tore his heart out and that he was on his way back to the WWF to tear Ric Flair and Elizabeth apart, because Elizabeth knew what it was like to be Randy Savage's ally, now she knows what she's going to be like to be Randy Savage's closet enemy because he's coming back sooner than Ric Flair and Miss Elizabeth think.

Andre The Giant Leaves the Heenan Family January 6, 1990
"On an Edition of WWF Superstars, Bobby Heenan called out Andre The Giant who had not been seen since Survivor Series because Heenan "banned" Andre for a month and that he wanted to talk to Andre face to face in the new year. Andre came out with Heenan badmouthing him saying that he couldn't do anything right, he couldn't beat Hulk Hogan 3 times. He couldn't hold on to the WWF Championship for as long as he could, he was scared of a snake and above all else. He couldn't beat The Ultimate Warrior for the Intercontinental Championship which left Heenan no choice and that from this day forward, Andre The Giant was officially discharged from the Heenan Family. Heenan slapped him which only made Andre angrier, Andre said that Heenan couldn't fire him from the Heenan Family in fact, he quit. Haku. Barbarian. Rick Rude. Barry Windham. Arn Anderson. Tully Blanchard and WWF Champion Ric Flair who were now officially a part of the Heenan Family ganged up on him. Andre fought back and was able to get his hands on Heenan before being jumped again, with this. Haku challenged Andre The Giant to a match at the Royal Rumble!.
