Event: AJPW Fan Appreciation Day Date: Wedsenday, May, Week 2, 1999 Attendance: 2,005 in Korakuen Hall (NO VACANCY!!!) TV Rating: 8.53 (6,399,940 viewers) on Nippon TV In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Akira Maeda won a battle royal in 16:58. The other members of the 'final four' were Takao Omori, Steve Williams and Hiroshi Hase, with Takao Omori being the final elimination.
Steve Williams got the most eliminations over the course of the match.
Maeda gets another big win after beating Nishimura, he's on a bit of a roll here.
Rating: 81 B
In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Jushin Liger defeated CIMA in 14:50 by pinfall with a Liger Bomb.
A great quick match between a rising star and a legend, exactly what the crowd coulda asked for from the rising Junior Heavyweight Division of AJPW.
Rating: 81 B
In a decent match, Burning (Osamu Nishimura, Tsuyoshi Kikuchi and Kentaro Shiga) defeated Johnny Ace in 7:07 when Osamu Nishimura defeated Johnny Ace by pinfall.
Johnny Ace gets beat up for 7 minutes by Burning, 5 stars.
Rating: 77 B (100 A* in our hearts)
In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, SGA (Yoshinari Ogawa, Yoshihiro Tajiri and Hayabusa) defeated Sternness (Gedo, Jado and Owen Hart) in 13:50 when Yoshinari Ogawa defeated Jado by pinfall with a Backdrop Hold.
Gedo returns with this match after his injury, sadly he loses, but at least he didn't take the fall right? Eh, either way, Sternness just seems really, really out of it, and with Jun losing, it isn't getting better.
Rating: 78 B
In a bout that had superb wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Kurt Angle drew with Vader in 30:00 when the time limit expired.
Angle has a great singles debut and is able to draw with the absolute monster in Vader who is on a hot streak after beating Gary Albright!
Rating: 93 A
In a bout that had superb wrestling and great heat, Kenta Kobashi and Jun Akiyama defeated Mitsuharu Misawa and Gary Albright in 21:46 when Kenta Kobashi defeated Mitsuharu Misawa by pinfall with an Orange Crush. Kobashi and Akiyama seemingly decided to put everything away for 1 night, somehow finding a way to co-exist after everything as Sternness and Burning watch on in shock, they still haven't lost a step...
Also Misawa just seemed really out of again after that piledriver by Owen, it really seemed to take him out of the match a lot tonight.
The hot crowd, Misawa's incredible selling, Jun and Kobashi's great tag offense, and Albright working some great comeback spots made this an incredible match match, with some of the crowd crying as a result.
Rating: 100 A*
Post match
Jun is leaning on the ropes, the win hard fought, Kobashi sees Jun, at the Dome, he knocked him out and Jun had to be carted off, but tonight, Kobashi walks up to Jun and extends a hand.
9 Months Ago, a handshake turned into an exploder that caused a Hell in a Cell Match...
Jun shakes the hand and walks away to the rope and celebrates for a moment before leaving...they have finally shook hands and the feud is seemingly over after they win their first tag match together since their loss against Taue and Kawada back at the 1998 Super Power Series... In a bout that had great wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Minoru Suzuki, Nobuhiko Takada, Kazushi Sakuraba, Tomohiro Ishii and Masato Tanaka defeated Toshiaki Kawada, Akira Taue, Yoshihiro Takayama, Takeshi Morishima and Naomichi Marufuji in 72:18.Naomichi Marufuji was eliminated first, then Tomohiro Ishii, then Akira Taue, then Masato Tanaka, then Takeshi Morishima, then Kazushi Sakuraba, then Yoshihiro Takayama, then Nobuhiko Takada, and finally, Toshiaki Kawada after a failed comeback.Marufuji was eliminated after taking a fall through a table off the balcony of Korakuen! This is officially the longest AJPW match of all time and one of the longest matches of all time in general, and the fans got it for free!!!Suzuki-Gun stands tall after an incredible performance, they are beginning to show their strength...Rating: 91 A Post match
The crowd sits stunned after watching just watched a 70 minute match in AJPW. Suzuki begins to rise up as the rest of Suzuki-Gun comes out.
Suzuki can barely speak, but he grabs a mic and simply says.
"SUZUKI-GUN ICHIBAN!"
And with that, AJPW ends it's Fan Appreciation Day with an incredible series of matches and moments!
