Event: AJPW Summer Action Series - Day 14 Date: Saturday, August, Week 4, 1999 Attendance: 16,500 in Nippon Budokan (NO VACANCY!!!)
Show Rating: 95
The show starts off as per usual with the NTV sports march blasting
In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling, Vader defeated Hiroshi Hase in 15:19 by pinfall with a Power Bomb.
Vader gets some momentum back after beating Hase here pretty handily.
Rating: 77
The first entrant to the Battle Royal walks his way out!
IT'S DRAGON KID! THE TORYUMON STANDOUT IS ANOTHER PIECE TO THIS GROWING JUNIOR DIVISION!!!
In a decent match, Shinjiro Otani won a battle royal in 20:16. The other members of the 'final four' were CIMA, Yoshihiro Tajiri and Jushin Liger, with CIMA being the final elimination. Jushin Liger got the most eliminations over the course of the match.
By Virtue of this victory, Otani is the Number 1 Contender for the Junior Title now.
Rating: 67
In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, Suzuki-Gun (Akira Maeda, Masato Tanaka and Tomohiro Ishii) defeated Burning (Osamu Nishimura, Kentaro Shiga and Yoshinobu Kanemaru) in 12:28 when Akira Maeda pinned Kentaro Shiga.
Burning not starting off hot tonight as they pick up this loss. Suzuki-Gun has been building a lot of momentum with their feud with Dynasty too.
Rating: 65
In a decent match, Steve Williams, Yoshihiro Takayama and Terry Funk defeated Yoshinari Ogawa, Kurt Angle and Gary Albright in 15:38 when Steve Williams pinned Gary Albright with a Backdrop Driver.
The Triangle is certainly back in shape being able to pick up a win against the Untouchables. Funk seems to be giving em that extra boost they need after Morishima's injury.
Rating: 82
In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Nobuhiko Takada and Kazushi Sakuraba defeated Owen Hart and Tamon Honda in 17:48 when Nobuhiko Takada submitted Tamon Honda with a Jujigatame.
Nobuhiko Takada and Kazushi Sakuraba make defence number two of the AJPW All-Asia Tag Team titles under the freebird rule.
Not much to note here besides that this was a great match for the All Asia Tag Titles here, Owen and Honda worked great together but couldn't get the W for the Dynasty.
Rating: 87
In a decent match, Hayabusa defeated Tsuyoshi Kikuchi in 18:20 by pinfall with a Phoenix Splash. Hayabusa wins the AJPW Junior Heavyweight title.
Hayabusa is able to reclaim the Junior Title here as Kikuchi simply can't overcome Hayabusa in a 1 on 1 situation here. It should be noted that the Untouchables have in particular picked apart Kikuchi and Kobashi as setup for their title bouts. So he didn't come in 100%.
Rating: 79
In a good match, Jun Akiyama and Naomichi Marufuji defeated Kawada & Taue in 20:15 when Jun Akiyama pinned Akira Taue with an Exploder.
This was a great match between these 2 teams, Marufuji's innovation on offense with some insane springboards, dives, and high-flying kept Kawada and Taue on their toes as they got upset here!!! Just when you thought they could make a run again.
After the match, Akiyama stares off with Kawada and Taue, Kawada and Jun had patched up the mends a month ago. They shake hands again before Kawada whispers something into Jun's ear as he nods and walks off...?
Rating: 91
In a bout that had great heat and good wrestling, Minoru Suzuki defeated Takao Omori in 23:44 by pinfall with a Gotch-Style Piledriver.
Post-Match, Omori stumbled back to his feet as he clutched at his neck and began to swing at Suzuki! He fought off the Young Boys and nailed an Axe Bomber on Suzuki before both factions broke up the fight!!! I guess it truly isn't over yet!!!
Rating: 87
In a bout that had sensational wrestling and fantastic heat, Mitsuharu Misawa defeated Kenta Kobashi in 33:20 by pinfall with a Tiger Driver. Mitsuharu Misawa wins the AJPW Triple Crown title.
Rating: 99
Post Match
Misawa walks up to Wada and demands he hand him the Triple Crown as on the outside, the attack on the outnumbered Burning continues until Kawada, Taue, Fuchi, and Inoue rush out to scurry them off as Misawa stands alone in the ring afterwards, Triple Crown in hand he takes a mic as well. The rest of the roster watches on in horror as they realize what this means. The president, the one who's went actually mental has just won the crown.
"Misawaism."
A simple word, a phrase that pierces through the Budokan akin to that of a gunshot. Kobashi has to be carted out, similar to Morishima, who knows when we'll see Kobashi again.
This is Misawa's promotion now, and nobody can stop him.

As predicted, Misawa reigns supreme. But this feels more like forcing an ideology shift rather simple hunger for power, so it's a lot more interesting. Getting concussed by an Owen piledriver really woke him up huh. This happens while junior heavyweight division is heading in a very different direction and you have a big mix of styles there. Meanwhile Suzuki-gun continue their momentum and I'm wondering what side of the barricade they fall on.

I'm not really familiar with Dragon Kid, except for that ROH six-man tag match that got 5 stars in 2006, but I'm sure he's going to spice up the division with some more high-flying action. Good thing.
Suzuki-gun got a much-needed W, Triangle of Power continued their recent good run and Sakuraba and Takada continue to look like a submission menace in the All-Asia Tag Team division.
I can only think that Otani is probably the next challenger for the Jr. title. Hayabusa vs. Otani sounds good (vs. Tajiri, CIMA, Liger... the possibilities sound fantastic tbh).
I thought Marufuji would suffer the pin in his tag match, but you opted for something different, which is fine.
The tension between Suzuki and Omori only keeps growing. They're probably having two more matches: a rubber for Omori to get a win back and one final KO match or so to settle the score.
Fantastic match in the main event. In fact, a MOTY contender, it seems. Misawa is probably bound for a huge run as the champion. Akiyama is probably next in line, unless you trick us and he opts to pursue a tag team run for the titles alongside Marufuji.
