Event: AJPW World's Strongest Tag Determination League - Day 6 Date: Saturday, December, Week 2, 1998 Attendance: 7,000 in Tokyo Bay NK Hall (NO VACANCY!!!) Show Rating: 91 A
The show starts off as per usual with the NTV sports march blasting
In a decent match, Akira Maeda, Minoru Suzuki and Kazushi Sakuraba defeated Mighty Inoue, Rusher Kimura and Haruka Eigen in 12:35 when Minoru Suzuki defeated Rusher Kimura by submission with a Sleeper Hold.
In terms of in-ring work, Minoru Suzuki was head and shoulders above everyone else.
The MMA boys outworked all the old men by a large margin. They all did well and the crowd are really into them here in AJPW
Rating: 73 B-
In a bout that had great wrestling and good heat, Kenta Kobashi and Tsuyoshi Kikuchi defeated Hayabusa and Yoshihiro Tajiri in 10:08 when Tsuyoshi Kikuchi defeated Hayabusa by pinfall with a Fireball Bomb.
Kenta Kobashi carried the match in terms of in-ring performance. Yoshihiro Tajiri was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance.
With this lose, the win against Suzuki and Sakuraba does nothing for the now mathematically eliminated team of Tajiri and Hayabusa.
Post Match, Kikuchi grab ahold of the mic and challenged Hayabusa for a Junior Title Match at the end of the first tour of next year and Hayabusa accepted!!!
Rating: 85 B+
In a superb match, Vader and Johnny Ace defeated Takeshi Morishima and Yoshihiro Takayama in 14:43 when Vader defeated Takeshi Morishima by pinfall with a Power Bomb.
Johnny Ace was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance.
With this lose, Morishima and Takayama are suddenly knocked out of the tournament!!! The now 2nd big upset so far!!!
It's become sort of clear that the Triangle of Power does better with Williams there, but he hasn't been seen since his match with Akiyama...
Either way, they are taken out and walk back with a look of sadness.
Rating: 85 B+
In a bout that had superb wrestling and great heat, Holy Demon Army defeated Nobuhiko Takada and Takao Omori in 17:37 when Toshiaki Kawada defeated Takao Omori by pinfall with a High-Angle Power Bomb.
Takao Omori was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance.
The Holy Demon Army are able to keep their top 3 spot in the tag league with this win as the league is quickly coming to a close.
Takada and Omori are just barely in the tournament, but if The Vader and Ace or Suzuki and Sakuraba win, they are eliminated.
Rating: 89 A
In an exceptional match, Jun Akiyama and Owen Hart defeated Mitsuharu Misawa and Yoshinari Ogawa in 22:52 when Jun Akiyama defeated Yoshinari Ogawa by pinfall with an Exploder.
Yoshinari Ogawa was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance.
All Positions stay the same as Misawa and Ogawa go to a flat 3-3 record in the tournament, and are still able to win.
One thing that has become clear throughout the tournament is how much people are working over the arm of Misawa as he had it heavily tapped under his elbow pad. Misawa had to be held out after the lose...
Rating: 93 A

One of the things I expected heading into this is Takayama and Morishima doing a lot better than they have, even though it's pretty stacked. Though I guess it's 1998 and Morishima is kind of a young lion still?

Though I guess it's 1998 and Morishima is kind of a young lion still? Yep, he's still pretty young, still got a lot of learning to do especially against some of these guys who have teamed for years or have more experience. This would be his first tournament in AJPW ever so he's had his hardships. Also they really need that leadership that William gives, but he's still out due to the match with Jun. But Morishima will get better over time and be pushed more and more.
